Jeebus....lift with your knees man. Hurts my rickety back just watching.
I was just thinking the same - the deadlift is suppose to work a lot of muscle groups including the legs and core, but the way Gio's doing it, he's gonna have back problems. Maybe that's why a lot of NHL'ers do have back problems in addition to game injuries.
For Pete's sake people. It's not like this is the ONLY exercise Gio does. He is obviously targeting specific muscles, for specific purposes. Then he moves onto the next exercise, and the next and the next. The army of professional specialized advisers at his disposal know how to lift weights for maximum results.

This just seems so silly to me.
Do you actually believe that Gio and his trainers are not doing exercises properly?
A professional athlete? Who gets paid to be in peak physical shape?

Well, if the NHL doesnt work out for him he can always transition into furniture moving or becoming a teamster.
He will probably have bad technique lifting a couch based off that video so WCB watch out!! Gio has a plan.

He's wearing running shoes while lifting so obviously he doesn't have someone advising him properly because that's as ignorant as playing hockey in figure skates.
In his RDL's his stance is far too wide and he's using a mixed grip which is also wrong. Also he's extending his lower back at the end which is dangerous for an exercise that is used to strengthen the lower back.
Lots of trainers don't know what the hell they're doing. Especially ones with major league teams because they get to work with the best of the best athletically. As long as they don't injure the athletes they can do no wrong.
Geez, Gio's working out has really made me second think this contract he's signed. Does he have an NTC right now? I'd hate to have someone with such bad work out habits being a bad influence on our young guys.

Lol do you train professional hockey players? The video was posted by his and Jooris' trainer so I'm sure they have it covered. Not to mention it's only roughly 250 pounds. I'm sure wearing running shoes is fine.
I don't think they are trying to bulk up to look like walking masses of muscle. They want to perform on the ice.

Gio is always injured because he doesn't deadlift properly. If only an internet keyboard warrior on CP could explain this to him and show him how it's done.

This is a stupid statement. That's like saying that if he didn't grow up playing with the absolute top of the line skates/gloves/sticks growing up then there is no way he could become an elite athlete.
It is BECAUSE he is in such good shape that he can make up for not wearing weightlifting specific shoes for this exercise without it negatively effecting him or putting him at risk of injury. Your last paragraph perfectly argues your first
