The bar looks like it's ~250lb, which in the world of Deadlifts and elite athletes, isn't that much at all.

It's a Romanian deadlift. Most of the work is actually being done by his hamstrings, not his back.

What ever the weight, you can tell pretty easy just from the way he's lifting it that it's not that heavy for him.

After I read this I had to go check and it turns out that Frolik has more NHL games played than Giordano (512-510). The disparity gets greater if you include playoff games: 550-514.

I don't know what the relationship is between calendar age, games played, and player regression, but it makes for a pretty good counter argument to people claiming that the Giordano contract is going to be an albatross in the last years.

I think he's doing a straight or stiff leg deadlift, he's not suppose to lift with his knees.

Nice to see the bicep is pretty much healed up!

Deadlifts are not something you do if you have any sort of injury on the bicep.

Not gonna lie, I am unimpressed with his dead lift. From what I can tell, that is 245lbs.

Don Cherry love:

@CoachsCornerCBC: 1) Calgary Flames got a real deal in signing Mark Giordano for 6 years at 40.5 million, an average of 6.75 a year. Mark is a leader and

@CoachsCornerCBC: 2) the captain. If he hadn’t gotten injured, there’s no question he would have won the Norris Trophy with 48 points in 61 games.

@CoachsCornerCBC: 3) It would have been nice to see a tough defenceman win the Norris Trophy. Mark had 37 minutes in penalties and was a +13. In my mind,

@CoachsCornerCBC: 4) there`s no question the Flames, with Dennis Wideman (15g, 41a, +6), TJ Brodie (11g, 30a +15), Kris Russell (4g, 30a, team leading +18

@CoachsCornerCBC: 5) and now add 6`5`` Dougie Hamilton (10g 32a) have by far the best defence in the League. P.S Don`t forget one of my favourites,

@CoachsCornerCBC: 6) Deryk Engelland, even if he doesn`t know how to spell Deryk right.

It looks like he's going for reps than weight.. notice how he barely lets the plates touch the floor when retracting from the DL.

You'll have to show him how it's done when he gets back to Calgary!

Ha! These guys are lifting for endurance and strength, not for bulking. I'm sure he did 1000 reps

Yes, I too know how to exercise better than professional athletes, my chiseled physique shall back up my claims...

Thank you for posting this, seems funny people commenting on technique who clearly don't understand what he is doing.

This is a great exercise for the hammies! That is a lot of weight and he has perfect technique, makes it look so effortless. I hate going to the gym and seeing people try this and bend their back or bend their knees. Makes me cringe. Want a slipped disc? Do this exercise with bad technique.

I'm impressed. Low weight + more reps = more endurance, which is what hockey athletes go for. I'd be a bit more ''unimpressed'' if he was DL 500+ lbs with lower reps, as then he'd clearly be looking to bulk and add mass.

From where I sit at my keyboard drinking my soft drink and eating chips, it looks good to me!
