It should be Mark, that's why he is wearing the flames development shirt and shorts they gave the prospects during camp.
I meant David Jankowski is probably the guy on Giordano's "team", since Mark wasn't there on July 2nd. That's definitely Mark wearing the red shirt in the other video doing outdoor drills, and David is the skinny kid behind him.

"The skating, the size, his shot's got better," Conroy said. "I'm really happy with him here (at development camp). It was one of those where you want him to get stronger. He's still skinny but he is filling out a little more. He's got great hands; you see some of the goals he scores. Smart, and his skating seems like it's gotten stronger. I kinda miss jankowski talk lol. I must be a glutton for punishment.
So here's a hypothetical I've been thinking about:
What if Jankowski actually pans out? To at least 3rd line center chipping in offensively and responsible defensively.
What do we do with our lines? Let's assume this is 2-3 years down the road.
Stajan gone? Monahan/Bennett 1a/1b with Jankowski and Backlund fighting it out for 3rd C spot? I think Backlund would probably be a waste at 4th line center spot. Maybe he would be traded? Shift anybody to wing?
I get the feeling of Janko pans out it will be a similar situation to Colborne where he will be 24ish when he starts hitting his stride at the NHL level. Backlund's contract will expire by then

I wonder where he fits though. Assuming we have Bennett, Monahan and Backlund as a solid top 3...is Janko a #4C or does he shift to the wing? Either way, hopefully he has a big season and can make the team out of camp next year. Would be great if Janko and Poirier are the two new guys on the team next year.

There will need to be trades made to make room for Janko if he is part of the long term plan. Which will depend a great deal on his camp performances.
I like Stajan where he is. And unless Janko proves to be a very responsible centerman (which I doubt he will as a such a young guy), the centers will be Mony, Backlund, Bennett, Stajan, with Shore drawing in.
Depending on what path Treliving wants to take with his devolpment, Janko possibly replaces Shore on the callup list.
I don't think if Jankowski becomes a really good center, that Backlund will become irrelevant.
Backlund still provides solid leadership, great puck possession, speed, and defensive acumen, plus some offensive contributions. If Jankowski pushes backlund out of a 3rd center spot, then why wouldn't Backlund look great on the Jankowski's wing (or even higher up the lineup)? If Jankowski doesn't beat Backlund out of the 3rd line center spot down the road, he may look great on somebody's wing as well.
Either one of those you may be able to shift up and down the lines and in different positions. That is incredibly valuable versatility. Center gets waved off? Well, there is another center capable of taking a draw. One of the centers goes down? No worries, there is another very capable center right in the lineup.
Jankowski still has to make it down the road (and I think he will), so this talk may all be for nothing. I just think for the discussion being held, Jankowski and Backlund will probably end up competing for that 3rd line center spot, but they will not be competing for an actual spot on the team. You make room on a team for more centers. You can't have too many, IMO.

Making lines is tough now, because of how much talent there is in the organization. So many interchangeable players that can play multiple positions. The competition for positions will be fierce, my guess is there are a few surprises this year and many of the spots from last year may be hard to keep, especially for players on 2 way contracts. How many of our forwards are on 2 ways and how many are 1 way?

Jankowski is a strong defensive centre and one hell of a backchecker. You should have seen that backcheck he made during the dev camp scrimmage, it was Toews-esque, and then he hit the OT winner right after.

I think the main difference is Toews is doing it in the Stanely Cup finals not a 3 on 3 scrimmage. Nice play though.
Of course, that obviously goes without saying.
However, here is a 20 year old kid who was drafted from high school prep hockey making that play in a scrimmage where most just want to pot some goals in and get noticed. That shows a lot.
Also, he seemed to have an uncanny ability to have chemistry with practically anyone really quickly.
This kid's IQ is really high. Scrimmage or not, these are the types of plays you hope your vets know to make.

The point is, watching him get back and recover like that on a line change in the middle of July, you can already sense he's going to be one of Hartley's favorites in his first training camp, and Hartley's favorites get an opportunity - whether it's Brodie, Bennett, Jooris, Byron, Bouma, Ferland, or Gaudreau. Good habits breed good players and Hartley is willing to work through the rest.
