You dont become a world class city by doing the bare bones. Its also not about trying to glamorize the city with fancy new facilities. If we want to be a world class city we have to attract the world's best people to live here. Plain and simple. If we ever want to un-hinge Calgary's dependence on the Oil & Gas industry and expand into other markets, we need the worlds most talented people. Why would these indemand people come to a city that doesn't offer the same level of living as the cities we will be competing with.

It goes deeper than just financial justifications, think longer term.

Well as someone who lives here and attends events I would say I have 0 issue with the roof being 100% closed.

They've already played five games which all had great weather.

There's three more this year before October 10 which should all be nice. More realistically there will be two or three games a year which won't be nice, INCLUDING playoffs.

I personally hate the concept of a dome for the football, the robbing of one nice summer game isn't worth any amount of climate controlled games later in the year IMO.

I have had season tix to Stamps (and Flames) for 14 years now. Weather is usually fine from June to October. November is usually freezing.

It's a lot more to do with atmosphere. If you've been to SkyDome when closed, the O in Montreal or old BC Place then you know the atmosphere sucks. It won't take long before we regret that part of it.

I would rather stay in McMahon's outdated facility in the open air for another 10 years.

We had season tickets for over 10 years.

Of course, the game on Saturday was a "not nice weather" game. Calgary is the sunniest CFL city in the league, why would we think that nice game days are anything but the vast majority?

That is Edmonton's current arena...I would suggest the gap will widen

I would prefer open air myself as well, but the problem is that the cost of a retractable roof is excessive for the need, and a roof needs to be there for it to be usable at all times.

If the options are roof or no roof - always take roof

Just a quick Google search shows that even the mighty NFL only currently has 4 stadiums with retractable roofs and apparently 66% of the games in those stadiums are with the roof closed (because it is to hot but same would go for to cold here)

Economically it doesn't make sense to have a retractable roof and therefore you go back to my original point
