Any number of them could have been elected in a previous election, but it doesn't really matter as May somehow made it into the debates prior to being elected.
I would like more representation of small parties on a national level, or better yet, remove party association altogether, but for the time being, there should be a floor to the requisite number of seats to be called a party. Perhaps seats in 4 provinces? Or maybe remove the seat requirement and go with 3000 registered volunteers in each of at least 4 ridings in at least 4 provinces? That should permit a Canadian grass roots voice in the debate but remove fringe politics. Maybe?

Like I said, environmental damage does not exist per capita. Or are you going to try and argue that Canada's "2-3 times per capita" of pollutants dumped into the environment is causing more real damage than China's far greater total pollutants is?

I meant to say that Canada has no moral standing when it comes to pushing China into cleaning up it's act. It's like if we were to criticize other countries for suppressing scientific advancement when the Harper government threatens the jobs of any government scientists who publish their work without authorization.

CALGARY -- Canadian Natural Resources is warning that Alberta's corporate tax hike will hit employment, though both company executives and Premier Rachel Notley agree the steep drop in crude prices is a much bigger challenge.
The Calgary-based oil and gas giant posted a net loss of $405 million during the second quarter, mostly because of a $579-million charge related to the higher tax rate.
All things being equal, the higher tax tab means $579 million less will be invested over the lifespan of Canadian Natural's assets, chief financial officer Corey Bieber said in an interview.
That translates into about 4,100 fewer person years of direct, indirect and induced employment in that time span, he said, citing a study by a third-party consultant.

Any CNR employees on here vote for NDP a few months back?

Saw that story earlier but the numbers seem kind of funky. Someone would have to explain to me how 2% rate increase would swing them from a profit to a $400M loss. The additional tax should be charged on profit no? unless the tax was retroactive or something.

I think our corporate tax is charged on revenue, not profit. Even so, I'd really like to see the ledger that shows they ate over $500 million in extra taxes.

$500 million is 2% of 25 billion, if it is as simple as that.

It was charged on deferred income tax liabilities, so on revenue from past quarters as well as current. That allows better cash flow but obviously increases your liability to this sort of thing.
I think CNQ is being a bit mellow dramatic, but their point is not wrong. This tax increase will obviously result in less investment and less employment especially when combined with the current economic condition in the province, country and world.
What I hate even more is Notely's response. To paraphrase, "well, duh, of course higher taxes result in less profit. That's what Albertans wanted when they voted for us. We'll talk again when oil prices go back up....which they will...fer sher".
Painful.

Yeesh, if that's the case that's brutal. Companies are already taking a bath, that's a nice kick in the nuts to go with it.

Last time May cut everyone off, this time they aren't letting her get a word in edgewise.
Mulcair bashed Trudeau's tax increases and Trudeau bashed Mulcair's tax increases, Harper must be smiling inside.
