We would be the laughing stock of the sporting world.... nay, the entire world... if that was actually the design.

Not right now. Some other recent posts are accurate. You'll notice a collective theme in that no one is actually saying anything specific. There's a reason for that.

Also, not sure what happens now with an announcement, now that the federal election has just been announced. Don't overanalyze this comment, however, as I honestly just don't know. I'm not the one on the announcing end.

It seems as if a lot of hats are up in the air right now.

Offering big money for a sports stadium in your home base during a federal election is a huge loser. No way the Conservatives or any other party steps up to that plate.

When you look at it, just where do you think the government money is going to come from? Not with this city council (and they also don't have the money anyways), the provincial government is iffy at best, and federally there might be a small window if the Conservatives win another majority early in their new mandate.

Stadiums in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal were privately financed. Governments are rightly going to point to those examples and continue to defer any commitment.

Is it that no one actually knows anything?

Alright, you outed me. Yes, there is nothing happening whatsoever. There isn't even an arena being planned. The Flames are just going to surprise everyone and actually announce they aren't moving at all; they're just going to put racing stripes on the Saddledome to make it more aerodynamic.

And, in the spirit of the Riddler, they're also going to paint giant question marks all over the interior of the building to keep people like you constantly guessing.

Oh man, racing stripes! My source had told me they were planning on renovating the saddledome more extensively. Taking the roof off and making it an actual dome, with big enough supports to hold any concert equipment ever. Plus a pickup truck suspended for advertising purposes just under the (now higher) jumbotron to get us some concession space back.

I think the remediation of the suspected site makes the Calgary situation a bit different, no private developer is going to pony up the money needed to make that site developable.

Pfffft! Racing stripes don't make your stadiums faster! Every mod freak knows speed holes are where it's at!

Agreed. City or the government is one the hook for the clean up costs or for selling the land for its value minus the clean up costs. But what does that have to do with paying to build a new arena?

Normally the City would recoup those costs through sale of land and taxable land uses at high intensity. A stadium and arena make that financial arrangement more of a challenge.

^ Does that apply to only the creosote issue or does it also extend to cleaning up the bus station? Wouldn't the bus business be on the hook for that one?

People should start posting random guesses as "new info from a source" and then see if anyone who has actual insider info steps in and corrects them or not...

It's going to be a cowboy boot shaped arena.

The good news is, most people will be getting seats no deeper than row 3 from the ice.

The bad news is, they'll be in section 1268.

Well when your awesome enlightening insider info is "They're getting a new arena, eventually!" along with wildly inaccurate assurances of when we'll find out about it, it's pretty obvious. If you keep swinging by every 4 or 5 months saying it's happening soon you're bound to be right eventually, right? What happened in March?

You haven't told anyone anything they couldn't have found out with Google, or common sense.

By all means, leave the thread then.

I have made it abundantly clear that a) I can't speak in specifics, for reasons you are not privy to, and b) I am not the one making the announcement, which you seem to fail to understand.

I can verify my sources with Bingo if need be, and there's others on this board who know me off this site too. I try to throw an easter egg where I can within my limits, mainly because I love this board and I love seeing Calgary get built.

I don't owe you #### all, my friend. If you don't want to believe me, I ain't gonna lose one wink of sleep over it.

Hey boss,

whats your affiliation to all of this? I don't need specifics out of respect to your privacy, but obviously it's known within this forum you have some sort of connection to whatever capacity.

What's the backstory here as to why people keep asking you?

Why leave the thread? This isn't "Muta's insider information thread", it's general speculation about a new arena. And if the only thing you can say is "it's happening soon" (when it hasn't been) then maybe you shouldn't say anything at all. You're just getting people all hyped up for something about to happen only for them to be disappointed.

Obviously, even if you do have insider information, you couldn't actually say anything substantial as you'd likely face legal repercussions and lose your job. But why dangle carrots in front of people's faces and then pull them away?
