Nothing confirmed yet, also worth nothing that closer to this island there has been a 767 and 747 crash too.

I think he is referring to SA295.

You would think if it came from a crash 28 years ago it would be more weathered and covered in barnacles.

That is true, but the rush to immediately link this to MH370 needs to be tempered. Hopefully they can get some serial numbers off the part and be able to confirm which plane it came from.

Additionally, the piece found seems to be unique to the 777 which as a type is not that old having first flown in 1994. Only 5 hulls have been lost, all recently, and all accounted for except for MH370.

Do the 747, 767and 777 share parts? If so then it could be more complicated

Looking a the ocean current if it is the same plane, does that mean the crash was far further than off the coast of Perth?

No but the wing parts for a 777 and 747 are close in size, that part looks like a part of a flap or aileron off of some sort of jumbo. It won't take long till it's identified to the aircraft it came from. Every part has serials.

It looks like they are confirming it to be from a 777

Well there's a million parts on a airplane, so indeed some or common... but key elements of the airframe are not shared. This "flaperon" is unique to the 777 in this application. It's a piece that acts as a flap (the part that extends from the wing during takeoff/landing to create more lift) but also augments the aileron (to bank/turn the plane), hence "flaperon".

Some further action on Reunion Island:
Quote:
After a piece of a plane was found on a Reunion Island beach in the Indian Ocean, suspicions immediately arose that it was a piece of long-missing MH370. Authorities were not yet able to substantiate that claim when another piece of debris washed up on the island: a suitcase. The suitcase was found about ten feet away from the airplane part.

Debris field map relative to the estimated position of the plane
I was watching CTV news and they were saying the flap was confirmed to be from a 777? MH370 is the only 777 listed as missing...

Unfortunately, this doesn't necessarily mean they're going to find the airplane. All it will do, for now, is suppress some conspiracy theories that the plane is intact in Russia and the passengers are being held as slaves.
And that's not even the wildest theory I've heard.
