That would be a remarkably intact plane.

We have seen this movie before. I really doubt all those detected pings could be that wrong. That company's location is literally a continent away from those detected pings.

What movie are you speaking of?

This whole thing is a gong show and is unprecedented, no wreckage anywhere, no ELT signals, botched investigations...you name it this story has it, the best mystery writers on the planet couldn't come up with this.

At this point I wouldn't be shocked if they end up blaming the "pings" on deep diving sperm whales scraping giant squids.

I think he means the "false leads" movie.

On the other hand, maybe we Westerners are too confident in technology which, lets face it, is pretty fallible.

I think it'd be interesting if the Kiwi on the oil rig who reported a fire ball in the sky is right in the end, and no one paid much attention because they have a bunch of machines telling them otherwise.

At this point, I'd believe (or disbelieve) just about anything.

My guess is it's a comment in the news story that was just formatted on CP.

Wow, this is just stupid, CNN reporting it's "very" possible that they are searching in the wrong place/ocean.

Something needs to be done to ensure commercial aircraft can't go missing like this...no matter what the cost to airlines and manufacturers.

Everybody has to have an ADS-B transponder in North America by January 1, 2020. Most in Europe already have it, where everything over 5.7 tonnes (so everything) must have it from 2017. Just kinda piggybacking off ADS-B uploaded to a satellite seems to be the easiest way to do it, as a good chunk of what they'll need is already in place.

In any event, I'm gonna go ahead and say that there's no way Edmonton Centre loses an airplane like this. Not ever. Not with the tech we've got.

I hope you like your seats getting even closer together (and paying to use the lav on board).
