How can you say Johns is better than Daley?

Better right now? No.
I personally don't think that Daley has a whole lot left in the tank though, while I think Johns is going to develop into a solid 3-4 d-man.
In terms of asset management and value I think johns > Daley. I should have been more clear

Thanked for the explanation, not necessarily because I agree with it though.

This seems really cheap for sharp to me. You would think he is a guy they could flip for a first + at the deadline. I'm not sure that Daley + Gaurbet are worth that much now.

Lol well that's quite the drop off from the rumoured asking price earlier.

Dallas is retaining 50 percent of Garbutt's salary.

I don't know much about either of those players, but at a quick glance it looks like Wideman + Raymond with salary retained. Not saying I would do the deal but it seems like a fair comparison in terms of age and type of players.

There was never much expectation of usable return for Sharp's contract from most 'Hawk fans...I, personally, don't think that Daley will play a game in the Indian Head sweater, as it will be easier to move the smaller salary of a D-man, than Sharp's and not have to take much salary back...
Giving up Johns, is a bit of a blow, as the 'Hawks, realistically, need to fill 3 D slots, I am not sure that bringing Oduya back is the best option...TVR will take one of the slots, Johns was anticipated for one of the other, and Bowman has already dumped Paliotta and Dahlbeck as D prospects...so the organizational Defense depth has taken a hit, with fewer pieces left to offer someone taking Bickell off of the 'Hawks hands, and now there are holes in the NHL roster, where the solutions have been dealt away, as the 'Hawks still have to dump salaries.

Ville Pokka has to be one of the guys as a lock for one of the spot on the Hawks next year then. At least thats how it appears.

Dammage...Pokka is all we have to show for dumping Leddy, he'd BETTER be useful!
Sadly, Bowman has some kind of fixation on Rundblad, who is AWFUL in his own end, and has shown no improvement at all, IMO.

Looks like chicago did not come out as far ahead as they did after the last 2 cup wins.
I'm starting to wonder if Seabrook is in play after all. If so, why not a package of Wideman (50% retained) and Granlund/Arnold and a 1st?

Benn - Seguin - Nichushkin
Sharp - Spezza - Hemsky
Not a bad top 6.

Wasn't the original asking price something like a 1st rounder and a B prospect + roster player? Can't say I blame them for aiming high but I am very glad that teams took advantage of their situation.

You can ask for all the first you want and even leak false rumours to your media guys but as Glenn Sather found out at the draft teams are being more prudent with their 1st round picks and assets.

If teams as prudent as the Hawks are struggling with cap Hell, you can bet other GMs are beginning to figure it out. Keep a stock of high draft picks and young prospects.

GMS are getting smarter. All the big trades this off season have been very reasonable. Hamilton, Saad, Kessel, Sharp.

Daley is so underrated on CP, he had 16 goals and has been a plus player for most of his career on a team that was just OK.

On the Plus side for Daley, IF the 'Hawks don't move him to dump more salary, he will NOT be on the 1st pair, and will have one of the leagues best stay at home D-Men, Hjammer, as a D-Partner...IMO, It was his pairing with Hjammer, that has made Oduya look as good as he has, over the passed few years.

thefoss1957, how would you draw up Chicago's top 9 this season, after the losses of Saad and Sharp?
That's a lot of scoring power to lose in 1 off-season.

Ya I'm sure Daley on the Hawks will get that Red Wings effect that made even Ian White look good.
