Pretty much league average for a forward.

...Seems like a knee-jerk reaction to the Flames being a poor possession team. Even though it doesn't solve Burke/Treliving's self-induced issues of such Possession Gods as Smid, Engelland, Bollig, Raymond, and Colborne.
He's shown to be a 40 point guy with 2nd/3rd line minutes. Doesn't need to be on PP, can contribute on PK. Great possession which pushes the likes of Bollig and Raymond down or out of the lineup, doubling up on that increased possession. Only 27, while having a very manageable cap hit. Not to mention, experience as a Stanley Cup winner.

The only downside? He's left handed. And not 6'2" exactly. Serious overreaction.

For anyone who doesn't like the length, Frolik will be the same age as Hudler when this deal expires.

Would you say Frolik has legit top 6 scoring upside? Or more of a 2/3 line tweener?

I like the size and the consistent production; winning a Stanley Cup never hurts either.

Hamilton's contract was amazing, this one I don't think is a steal. I think it's fair value. He has a career high of 45 points and is a good defensive player. 4.3 M is fair.

Still have 7 million in cap space left with Buoma, Ferland Shore and Byron to sign. Summer just started, could see players moved out too.
I can't see Shore, Ferkland and Byron getting contracts worth a million dollars a year or more.

Bouma is going to probably get 3 years and 1.5 to 2 per year. We're in good shape going into the season. we're in good shape for getting the kids signed next summer with those contracts coming off of the books.

2nd or 3rd line at worst.

Getting fair deal on July first usually means win for the team. Totally agree it's a fair deal but when you're signing a UFA, you expect more.

You're not taking into account this is a UFA signing. The context is important.

You always have to pay a year or more on July first. Honestly, 4.3 in five years isn't a bad cap hit for a player barely into his 30's.

Of all the thing Treliving has done, managing to keep Hudler the same age for the next 5 years is a scientific milestone, nevermind a solid hockey move for the Flames.

If they clear a couple contracts out it gives them more than enough cap space to resign all the RFAs.

Also, as mentioned we have $32 million coming off the books in the next two years, so it will work out great.

Shore and Byron shouldn't get more then a million a season. Ferland gets it if the Flames believe in him and it's a 3+ year deal.

Of course we would have preferred that, but then we wouldn't have landed him.

We had a huge hole on RW. Frolik helps fill that void.

He's a god amongst the fancystats crowd and I think he can push 50 points playing in our top 6.

This is going to be a hell of a team to watch next year.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Hudler
Bouma - Bennett - Frolik
Ferland - Backlund - Jones
Bollig - Stajan - Colborne

Raymond
Jooris
Byron
Shore

Giordano - Brodie
Russell - Hamilton
Engelland - Wideman

Smid
Wotherspoon

Hiller
Ramo
Ortio

There's got to be a minimum of 2 trades coming IMO. But the roster is looking solid going into next season.

I was just listing all the Flames forwards at the moment and three-quarters of the way through, my pen ran out of ink.
