So this uses the connectors on the left side of the phone? No more opening and closing the door for the microUSB cable?

5 weeks and still no charging dock from the Sony store. I am going to Vegas next week and will attempt to pick one up there.

Stupid Sony store.

Amazon would be your best bet. Nothing in Calgary that I have seen.

Tru Protection makes a film. You get 2 in a pack and they're very high quality and easy to apply.

I have an unopened package in my office. But I'll take a look and see which of my customers (Alberta and Manitoba) have picked it up and are selling them.

I'll reply back with a list.

Amazon link: http://www.amazon.ca/TRU1358-Anti-Gl...tion+Xperia+Z3

Ok, you can get the Tru Protection screen protector from Digital Communications:

Website: http://www.digitalcommunications.ca/

They're a Rogers authorized dealer, with over 40 locations (including Fido locations) across Canada.

The specific locations, in Alberta, that picked up the screen protector include:

Digital Communications
6031 Gateway Blvd.
Edmonton AB T6H 2H3

Digital Communications
Bay 4 2015 32nd Ave NE
Calgary AB T2E 6Z3

Digital Communications
Unit 131 501- 1 Avenue S
Lethbridge AB T1J 4L9

There are also a few Victoria and Vancouver locations. I won't bother listing those, unless someone asks.

MSRP is $19.95

I hope this helps.

So I have a problem.

My phone is blinking (top left) like it has an email, but I literally cannot wake my phone and I don't know what to do.

edit: sigh

Anyone else having this problem?

I can't find anything on google with people having this issue with the Z3, but I am.

Don't like this from my brand new phone.

Did you try the reset like on the video? Or is there a recovery you can get into and reset the phone? Haven't looked at much remote Sony phones.

If it is new can you not RMA it?

My Z3 service experience.

I took my Z3 swimming in Hawaii last month to take some underwater pictures. After 30 seconds in the water it shuts itself off. I restart it and continue to take a few pictures. I had the phone underwater maybe 3 minutes total. Come out of the water and the phone shuts down again. Won't turn back on. After 10 minutes I try again. Turns on but then screen is all messed up and shuts down again. Got it to start up again using volume and power buttons. Worked for a few hours then dead.

Nothing would bring it back to life.

Back home, I call Sony to get some help. After a couple of days of trying some things and plugging it in for many hours it still would not start up.

Sony says I need to send it into them. Got the service info email right away but waited 7 more days including
3 more calls into them to get the purolater shipping labels.

Sent it in to them in Mississauga on Dec 18. They received it Dec 23. Jan 2 I call and see if there is any update. Nothing. They still have to test it out.

Come home Jan 6 to a parcel with a brand new Z3. No email or phone call. There wasn't even any explanation in the box. Just bizarre.

Anyways. I guess the phone must've been defective. I had all the flaps tightly closed. I found out afterwards that the phone isn't waterproof in salt water so I guess Sony could've sent it back to me without fixing or replacement, so kudos for that.

Overall I'd say their service needs some work but I have a brand new phone so I guess I can't complain too much.

I won't be taking this phone into any water. Just too risky.

Heh, I thought the waterproof aspect was more for people who take selfies in the bathroom who may drop it in the toilet. Good to know it's not good in salt water. Swimming pool pics and lake pics it is!

Anyone have the compact version? I think that is the way I will go when I'm back in Calgary in march unless something new pops up before then.

Well, I went swimming with my Sony Xperia Z3 yesterday because that's exactly what I bought it for. In under a minute it a had filled with water and the phone is completely ruined. It's likely warrantied through Sony, but to find out I need to send it to them and they'll keep it for 14 business days. That's pretty crappy.

Fortunately, I bought the extended warranty ($100) just because I knew I'd be swimming with the phone and wanted to be sure I was covered in a case such as this. The warranty company is shipping me a new Galaxy S5 tomorrow as a replacement so I'm going that route. I'm sure Sony would give me a phone on warranty, but I can't wait three weeks and I certainly wouldn't be going swimming with the phone again, so I'm heading back to Samsung.

If you're going to differentiate yourself in a crowded market with a material feature that nobody else has, it should probably work flawlessly. I'm never buying a Sony phone again.

Oh and to add...after I realized my phone was ruined, I went back to the beach and left if with my stuff. I then dove off the dock and my sunglasses flew off and are now lost at the bottom of the lake. In the span of five minutes I ruined/lost $1000 worth of my stuff lol.

funny timing for this post. I'm looking at getting a new phone and am about to pull the trigger on a Z3 compact if I can find one. How did you like the phone before you went swimming with it?

I liked it a lot. Battery life is awesome (I'm going to miss that). I had the regular Z3 but the battery is supposed to be even better on the compact.

It takes great video.

I love the magnetic charger. I'm bummed to be going back to inserting a cable into the phone like it's the 1990s.

Front facing speakers are really great with one exception - since the speakers face into your leg when it's in your pocket, the ringer can be more muffled than you would like.

I don't think it takes the best photos. iPhones and the Galaxy line take better photos IMO.

If you treat it like a phone that isn't waterproof, I think you'll be very happy.

I dropped my Z3 on a tile floor and smashed the screen a few months back. I called Sony and they said they could replace the screen for around $100. I sent it to Ontario and had a new phone in my hands four days later (I had to pay for shipping one way, which sucked). I have done some reading online and this seems to be quite normal for Canada, so maybe see how the replacement goes before jumping ship? I think they are doing the "under promise and over deliver" thing.

I should add that I am not aware of anyone who actually likes their S5. Try to talk your way into an S6 at least.

The one thing I don't like about the Phone is that it's just smudge city all over it. It's by far the best looking phone on the market when you clean it up, but the second you put your finger on it, big smudge.

And the back is glossy too. Gets scratched easy. I don't understand why they didn't go with the same material they used on the back of the tablet.
