Sony Xperia Z3 - Voted Best Smartphone on the Planet...
...by me.
I honestly can't think of a better phone. It destroys the competition. - waterproof
- expandable SD card slot
- front facing speakers
- 5.2" screen (an ideal size that isn't too big or too small)
- magnetic charger
- 3 gigs of ram
- two-day battery life
- 20 MP camera
- dedicated camera button
- awesome music software
Anyway, it comes to Rogers, Telus, Bell and maybe others on October 31. Rogers in Southcentre Mall has an actual Z3 that I played on yesterday and it was awesome. I'm on Telus, so I hope they get it on October 31st as promised by Sony, but as it stands there is nothing on the Telus website to say it's coming soon and the guy I talked to at the store didn't know anything about it.
Anybody else excited for this phone?

I've been looking into getting this one since finding out the Nexus 6 is stupidly big.
What i'm really curious about is how much bloatware these come with. The closer it is to stock Android, the better.

Glad to see Sony getting some recognition for their phones. I think the z3 will be a great phone, but I can't justify going from my z2 to a z3 since there's not too many game breaking changes on it.
Z2 was already an awesome phone, best one I've laid hands on (have the Oneplus one for my dad, and that's also a great phone but I like my Z2 better)
Edit: Sony UI has minimal bloatware and is very close to stock android, but if you buy it from a carrier, you can guarantee they'll slap on a bunch of useless stuff on there.

Sony does very minimal changes to stock Android, much like LG if you've used their devices. They're also the most developer friendly manufacturer around, leaving their bootloaders unlocked for easy rooting and ROM'ing

I'm partial to the Z3 compact myself. All the specs of the Z3, but with a 4.6" screen. Much better for those of us with smaller hands.

I know someone who has this phone and it got damaged by water when she was demonstrating the waterproof part.

Yeah, I've been holding off on upgrading from my SIII for a while. I was hoping Apple would drag iOS out of the dark ages of a boring grid of icons with iOS 8, but no. Was hoping for a cool Nexus device, but I don't like giant phones so that was a bust. And the Galaxy S5 is still just too much like my SIII that it would have been a really boring upgrade - not to mention the unreliable finger print scanner would have driven me bonkers. The Xperia is definitely the best phone right now IMO.

Not the first instance and won't be the last. Too much of the waterproofing is dependent on user responsibility with flaps over the port and whatnot.
The only issue I've heard or seen with phones claiming to have limited water proofing was the Samsung S4 Active I believe. There multiple instances of users (both retail and consumers) demonstrating a perfect seal only to have water still seep into the phone because of a defect.
Anyways, this should be a serious contender regardless of your criteria. Only $600 for one of the best in any category. Battery life and front facing speakers. Just... Damn.
Also the Compact is finally a smaller device that isn't compromised by lower specs. The battery life on that is quite mind bottling.

Do you buy these un-locked through Sony or do you use another provider? I am a smartphone newbie and dont know the difference as to what route is best to go?

The Z3? It isn't even available in Canada yet. It has a higher waterproof rating than the Z2 as well.

I think I have found my next phone. I have a 4s and was thinking of switching away from Apple but the Nexus 6 is bigger than I wanted. This seems like a great option.

I like the compact a lot as well, but I'd have to buy it unlocked as Telus doesn't have it. Bell might.

You can buy through the Sony Store or subsidized through a provider. The phone is available October 31 (according to Sony; carriers won't confirm that).

True dat.
Still, it shouldn't have leaked. I wonder if she didn't have the flaps securely closed. I wonder how Sony responds to a warranty claim like that.

So what are the expectations of the cost on this on a 2 year plan? $200?

I work in the industry. This is a Bell exclusive phone.
Are you sure it was a Z3?

This is for the Compact. No mention of the regular 5.2" version.
