yep. Agreed with Browna.
That's how I interpreted that comment as well.
The tone of voice also had a "and I know this will stick in Peter's gut a bit as well"

Yeah, that sounds like it. But how much more? Would love to know. Just seems weird to trade away such a great asset. A big, RH shooting young stud d-man. You gotta buck up for those players, not trade them away.

Scouting report from Dougie's draft year - his ability to jump into the rush will fit perfectly with Hartley's approach.
Quote:
NHL Central Scouting’s Chris Edwards
"He moves the puck well and makes good outlet passes, he does make good decisions with the puck, moves it very well out of his zone. He's a big guy, he'll take the body. … He uses his size well. He can muscle people off the puck."
Niagara IceDogs head coach Marty Williamson
"Especially at this level, you find guys that are awkward or don't have a lot of explosion. You're 6-foot-4, you don't have a lot of explosion (but) the jump off his skates is phenomenal. When he sees those opportunities to jump into the rush or lead the rush, I really believe it's untapped what he can do. He's a very special defenseman in our league. He just has to understand the details and he's going to be a very good pro . . . Dougie gets himself very prepared for hockey games. He's very diligent preparing himself. He goes about it very business-like. He's mature beyond his years.”

I wonder if Chiarelli had indicated he was going to offer sheet Hamilton... Listening to Sweeny's response to the question regarding it. Something like it wouldn't be a very smart thing for a gm to do.

Not to mention guys like Wotherspoon, Hickey, Morrison in the pipeline.

Does this make Wotherspoon a trade asset now? Got me thinking.

Just imagine Anaheim trying to cycle against Dougie and Engelland, good ####ing luck now. I almost can't believe we got him.

No. Flames still need prospect depth at the position and Wotherspoon is the best we have. I expect him to push for a bottom pair position in camp, making a veteran expendable.

In your defense, I don't think anyone could have predicted Sweeney losing his mind and trading Hamilton for the return he got.

It's time we had another Dougie on the team (and I'm not referring to Riseborough).

Oh geez so strange seeing so many media types who were so anti-Flames suddenly praising them.

If what is reported is true, then Edmonton's picks offered overall were better than the Flames.
I'm thinking what happened when Bruins asked for Nurse and picks instead, Chiarelli probably went "Don, we're going to offer sheet him in July if no deal gets done. We're not giving up Nurse". Sweeney then responds a couple days later by trading him to Calgary for similar picks package, and does a big FU to Chiarelli".
At least, that's how I'm going to imagine how it went down in my head lol.
