Bieksa did step up at the Jan 18th line brawl though and took the draw knowing full well his dance partner would be Westgarth. And I'm pretty sure he dropped em with Iggy once too.

I think he is well past his best before date and he's not a poster child for toughness, but there was some toughness there.

Sometimes things just go stale for a guy, and a fresh start can be a real boost. He would be useful to a team that trades for him, but he has limited uses.

So he might stay in our division. Excellent.

I suppose it lets the Sharks move Burns back to forward.

And he won't score any goals against San Jose off the stanchion.

The Sharks need help in net too. Maybe a package deal for Bieksa and Lack?

Sort of....Bieksa DID take the draw against Westgarth. As soon as the puck dropped though, he started hugging Westgarth until both linesmen converged. Then he spun away & went after Smid.....leaving the rookie centre to go up against Westgarth anyway.

Umm you need to watch the brawl again to see that the coward wanted no part of Westgarth and darted away as quick as possible to target Smid instead. I've never ever seen an NHL player that was such a tough guy around non-fighters and lightweights and such a coward against tough guys. No different than the only time he tried to fight Ferland was when Ferland was tied up by officials where he could throw some cheap shots. He's a pretty shameful player IMO.

Teetering? I'd say they tipped.

I don't see the Sharks as comparable to the Sutter Flames. They have some quality younger players, and other than Thornton and Marleau, their vets are all 30 or less. Pavelski, Couture, Burns, Vlasic...

Reeks of the Sutter Staois move if the Sharks go this route.

Hamhuis was pretty sure he wasn't going to be back in Vancouver. Either a trade fell through or Vancouver was just exploring options and still is, now with Bieksa.

I'm sure we got laughed at plenty for nearly a decade.

Trade Phaneuf, Kotalik, Bouwmeester experiment, rotating door of Sutters, hold on to Iginla forever, Jokinen part 1 and 2...GMs do dumb things when they are desperate

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
VAN may trade Kevin Bieksa, who has full NTC. Five teams interested. Bieksa, tho, believed to have two in particular he would waive to go to

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
On Bieksa, one in West (believed to be SJ) and one as yet unnamed team in East. If Bieksa traded, likely for a pick/prospect or picks.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Good morning. Word today is Kevin Bieksa has informed VAN he would accept a trade to SJ. Now up to the teams to work out a deal.

Makes sense though. The Sharks have an opening for "over the hill, ineffective defenceman" after allowing Hannan to leave as a free agent.

They also need a goalie. Vancouver has a few of those.

Not only Sharks willing to trade for Bieksa, they are going to give him an extension:

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Sounds like Sharks are happy to extend Bieksa's contract. Good fit for him and family. Sharks and Canucks still working on details of trade.

On the bright side keeping Bieksa long term in the division is a good thing and it probably cements the Sharks in their present state of not quite good enough to make the playoffs.
