Beware of goalies that stand behind elite teams. Ben Scrivens looked pretty damn good coming out of LA too. Talbot hasnt shown anything that he is better than average starting goalies in the NHL.

Only way it makes sense to ship out 2 picks is if there are deals in play (hudler?) to get picks back.

I wasn't huge on grabbing Talbot, until I got to thinking.. Dub likely wouldn't go back to Edmonton for any reason, and the fewer options they have the better.
Ideal: 52+53 for Talbot, Hiller@50% to oil for 16OA (I'm dreaming)

This makes no sense what so ever. Don't waste these extra picks Brad! We need more good prospects, not a backup goalie.

Meh, they're just talking to see if there's interest from Talbot to re-sign. What was it? 5 teams all got permission to talk to Talbot?
I feel like Lehner is the real target while running up the price on the other teams.

F***. I want no part of overpaying for a guy that showed only that he can play well for 20 games behind the defensively awesome Rangers...

I hope nothing comes from this. Especially if NY is really asking for a 1st rounder back. Fans would revolt.
Edit: Just saw that it is now 2 seconds or a second and a good prospect. Either way, nope.

Ben Scrivens 2013/14 Season Stats with the Kings:
19 GP, 1.97 GAA and .931 SV%
Viktor Fasth 2012/13 Season Stats with the Ducks:
25 GP, 2.18 GAA and .921 SV%
Cam Talbot 2014/15 Season Stats with the Rangers:
36 GP, 2.21 GAA and .926 SV%
I really, really hope Treliving treads carefully here as while Edmonton can make any goaltender look bad the fact is that neither of those goaltenders are that good and it's easy for a backup to come in limited duty behind a very good team and put forth impressive stats. Edmonton messed up badly but that doesn't mean the Flames have to. I have a really hard time believing that Talbot is a major upgrade on Hiller.

I think this just shows what a friggin awesome GM we have. This guy doesn't leave any stone unturned and he's always gonna put his due diligence in. I think Calgary will be "IN" on a lot of things.
In Treliving we trust!

If we are seriously interested I don't understand why. The ask is apparently a first round pick. We're not doing that, and we shouldn't even entertain 2 second round picks.

Scrivens was traded for a third round pick. I'd give that for Talbot seven days a week. Of course, you're never getting Talbot for that.
Fasth cost a third and a fifth.

I just hope these are all BS rumours being leaked by Sather to artificially create a bidding war. All the goalies not named Price, Lundqvist and Quick (maybe Schneider; apologies of I forgot someone) are essentially the same "average" NHL goalies who can be great for a stretch, mediocre for a stretch and are basically the product of the team in front of them, as pointed out by EE. I would be willing to bet that if the Oilers dump Scrivens for a new savior and we bring him in, he will be just as good as the goalies we already have. None of these guys are any better than the UFA pool and therefore not worth anything.

My guess is we may already have a deal in place for Hiller. Probably a 2nd round pick.
Not only do we get a better / younger goaltender in Talbot for two 2nd rounders but we take away one of the only affordable good goaltenders on the market away from Edmonton, which in my opinion would be worth a 2nd round pick.

Who says? Let's see what Hiller would do behind McDonagh and Girardi...

Doesn't make any sense to me to trade for Talbot. We can't even guarantee we would have him for more than a season, unless I'm mistaken he can't be extended until Jan 1st. It makes no sense whatsoever to "drive up the price for Edm", that's like bidding someone up at an auction, sometimes the other guy stops bidding.
Do we really have no faith in Ortio/Gillies/MacDonald and need to bring in a 27 year old goalie? Stick with Hiller/Ortio to start next year. If we have to trade away 2nd rounders let's beef up our RW and D.
