I'm always scared of an offensive defenseman playing on a team with 6 point per game forwards (or damn close to it with many of them at 1.5 ppg or well above). Im sure hes a fine prospect, but those stats are heavily padded on a team that averaged 5 goals per game while McDavid was in the line up.

Yeah, I picked JFK because he led his USHL team in scoring with no other real notable names on the roster, where as Dermott likely padded his stats a bit with Strome and McDavid up front.

Anyways, I've never seen either play, so what do I know?

Everything I've read about Dermott reminds me of Kris Russell and that was before I saw that LWOS also made the comparison. I'd happily take another Russell in the organisation. Always good to have smart and good-decision making blueliners.

Russell was on the Gold Medal Canada WJC team 6 months after he was drafted. The year he was drafted the WHL first all-stars were Phanuef and Mike Green. The 2nd team all stars were Russell and Seabrook.

Russell got drafted #67 overall because of his size but at as a 17 year old Junior he was a very dominant D-man.

I was looking at this thinking "wow 67th OA what an absolute steal!"
then i remembered, we paid even less for him

I remember being shocked that Russell wasnt selected in the second round. I understand the hesitation because of his size, but he was a dominant player in junior. One of the best I have watched.

NHL scouting is confusing at times. When Chicago took Can Barker 3rd overall years ago I almost fell out of my chair. Did they even talk to anyone about him?

Dermott played on the same peewee team as Connor McDavid and Sam Bennett. That is a stacked peewee team. Even so, they only finished second at the Quebec International Peewee Tournament.

Still very close between Dermott and JFK for the final Flames 2nd round pick. With eight picks after 53, we will end the poll Wednesday to try and finish the 2nd round.

not crazy about either of these guys. I guess I'd go with JFK. IRL still hoping for Dergachyov, seems like the perfect pick at 53
