Like I said, regardless of how good she is, Bachmann and Humm decided they no longer care vs Cameroon. If they do that against us they will be a non-factor.

Gareth Wheeler from TSN's all-star team through the group stage.
US' Rapinoe should be there instead of Marozsan, IMO.

Agreed.
But Hope Solo? No way, the keepers have been outstanding in this tournament. I would have given it to Chinese keeper Wang Fei or Colombian Sandra Sepulveda and maybe about 7 others.

Raponie should def be there, but I agree with Solo, she was the only reason the score wasn't 3-1 Australia going into the second half of their first game.
Closest thing to how a male keeper would play in the tourney. (Swedens keeper pretty good as well)

Yeah Solo is just so competent that you don't actually notice at times. I agree she's the best in the tourney. Rapinoe has been good, she is the MVP so far if you consider the definition of that to be the most valuable player to their team.

Loud "USA" chants filling the concourse at Edmonton Airport, there's a group decked out in US colors that just landed from Minneapolis ahead of their game here on Monday vs Colombia. Ran into a bunch last night as well and asked how they like Edmonton. "There's not much to do..."
2 pm start in Ottawa today is GER-SWE.
Germany starting 11: Angerer (C), Bartusiak, Maier, Krahn, Laudehr, Mittag, Sasic, Leupolz, Popp, Goessling, Kemm
Swden starting 11: Lindahl, Sembrant, Berglund, Fischer, Schelin, Jakobsson, Ilestedt, Sjogran, Seger (C), Samuelsson, Rubensson

Are there lots of Chinese fans for the evening game?

I'd say so, yup. There were lots of Chinese here for the first game as well but it was hard to tell because they were in the same red as Canada fans.
Ottawa at halftime.

A Sweden team that managed to draw the United States is getting beat by Germany like it's women against girls. Hard not to pick Germany to win the tournament at this point.

Huuuge lightning strikes in Edmonton right now, the flag poles at IKEA just got hit. Probably shouldn't be playing soccer. This is what you sign up for doing any outdoor event in Alberta in June.

Yeah looking downtown it looks fine. It's pouring and sunny at the same time on the south end. I'm stuck in traffic cause of a massive lake in the road.

Attendance update - organizers keep bragging about this being the highest attended cup in absolute terms (we may get to 1.2 million) but this is the first cup with 24 teams so there's more games. More relevant stat is average per game.
2011 (Germany) average attendance: 26,430 per match
2015 average attendance so far: 24,537 per match
We still have the highest attended matches to come, including three more guaranteed sellouts at BC Place which alone take the average to ~26,600. Because the final is already sold out anyway, the best result for attendance would be a loss for Canada in the semis at Commonwealth (guaranteed sellout on Canada Day) as that would keep Canada in Edmonton on a Saturday afternoon for bronze, another big draw. Other good thing would be France going on a miracle run because all their games will be in Montreal, potentially a big draw.
30k average is possible if one of these things happen. Montreal will make up for its ~10k attendance in the early games, but Moncton single-handedly is screwing it with 6 games of 7k-13k.

I didn't know this until today, but Fifa mandates that no soccer can occur anywhere in the city the week of a FIFA game.
So that literally meant that 8 year old kids had games cancelled/not scheduled to accommodate FIFA.

2 Alberta Major Soccer League games were held in Edmonton today, another tomorrow, and another Wednesday. If they played then surely all minor soccer would be allowed to play. The rule either doesn't exist, is not enforced, or applies only to pro soccer.

Went up to Edmonton today for the game which I really enjoyed. The supporters for both countries were LOUD but the attendance was disappointing. The fact that most of the tickets for sale for China vs. Cameroon were $95 seems silly. If they had some variable pricing or some bidding system so families could have come out for something like $20 a head it would be great. No reason to not have 30,000+ for elimination games.
