So tough to choose for the Flames. Svechnikov has the size, but will he compete as hard as a Konecny or Merkley? If all 3 went into the corner for the puck, who comes out with it more often than not? I have a feeling Konency and Merkley would despite the size disadvantage. The compete level of those two is off the charts, much like Bennett's.
I see all 3 as having the same level of skill, but I just think Konecny and Merkely are more likely to actually enjoy playing in Calgary and commit long term to the organization.

I honestly haven't necessarily consider this lad as a potential Flame, but he might just fit the bill!

If we don't trade up or don't get a faller from the top 10-12 players, I think we'll be going with hometown Calgary boy, Merkley.

Unless we trade up or down, we are drafting a big forward at 15. Either someone falls or Boeser/Svechnikov... People talking about Merkley, Konecny, etc are ignoring the fact that all else being equal, they will go with size. And since 12-20 are all about equal, it will be size. For us to draft a defenseman, we would have to move up or move down. Nobody makes sense at 15, given what else is available.

I don't think Boeser is an equal prospect to Merkley or Konecny, but you are probably correct on the size front.

THN has him at 14 and I think Button is high on him (yes, 9th!), so you know that means the Flames like him too...
P.S. I think Boeser is "our" guy, unless, obviously, somebody ahead of us loves him long time.

Konecny looks UNREAL. Size shmize. I was way more impressed with the videos I've seen of his than Svechnikov's.

Good thing nobody (except the Oilers) drafts based on Youtube. 33rd on Craig's list, so probably not on his brother's radar either...

He's certainly a dynamic player but his shot looks rather feeble for a projected top 6 player.

Even a blind man could see that this kid has top six forward or better written all over him.

Maybe, I am not arguing his "visual quality". I am just saying that the Flames are not going to draft him (unless it's with a pick later in the 1st or in the 2nd).

He has top six talent and drive. But his size and injury history have 'Gilbert Brulé' written all over him.

Haha I do that too.
There was a time when we thought Ryan Howse was a name that couldn't bust.

I think a lot of people under-value the magnitude of certain injuries on the development of both prospects and roster players. There is a strong correlation between team success and a lack of injuries.

I disagree with Button there quite significantly. There is no way Konecny is the 33rd best player in this draft.
And I disagree that the Flames wouldn't draft him unless he is available in the 2nd round. He could easily have gone top 10 had he been a little bit bigger.
I have a very good feeling about him. He fits in to our team philosophy perfectly, and would be a really good NHL player. Nobody can predict how a prospect will pan out but if the Flames drafted him I personally believe they would have struck gold.
