Is it just me, or are Canada's games much more dull than most of the others? I can't imagine that these games are helping to sell women's soccer here.

Bachman at her age plays with tremendous poise. To add to that if she does miss judge a ball her pure athletic ability allows her to recover for positioning.

If there is a C, it will be C as first priority. So can only be Switzerland or Cameroon.

Based on what I've seen from the group stage, making the quarters is about as good as it will get for Canada this year. Which was right where I expected them to be. Semis would be fantastic, but theyd have to play at a much higher level than they have so far.

nah.
Sinclair hasn't had a good game yet. When she does she's capable of winning it herself (absent crooked officiating).
We'll win in Vancouver and Sinclair will win us the 1/4s. The semis will be the match where we'll need to pull it together as a team.

They have to get her the ball at her feet or at least with a chance to do something with it and run at defenders.
Canada still playing it like they're trying to write some soccer text book and playing it around the midfield long enough to get it out wide to someone in space, with the purposes of getting crosses back in....unfortunately the delivery and crosses from out wide are shockingly bad, 7/8 of them not getting through the first defender from what I've seen.
When you've got a power forward, that in the women's game where one can be more dominant one on one, and needs just a little open space to get her shot away, you get her the ball in as many situations as you can, and let her do it. She's not been given that chance yet.

Yeah Sinclair hasn't really had the opportunity to have a good game or bad game, typical for a striker playing in this type of system when it's being shutdown by the opposition. Canada's midfield isn't dynamic enough for Sinclair to shine. This was made quite evident by the multiple Melis, Martens and van de Donk counterattacks when they came at us with speed and skill... all have less pure goal scoring ability than a Sinclair but more rounded games. Took the load off their center striker Miedema to the point that her inexperience was not detrimental.

not saying they have played great or anything but in soccer its pretty hard to do much when the other team is content with keeping it close and playing for a draw which has been the case with all their opponents so far

This is where the absence of Diana Matheson is very evident. It's tough to replace a midfielder with that kind of experience, vision and quality on set pieces.

You need to win to get there though. If the last three matches are indicative, it'll be tough for them to get into the quarters. Canada should be beating teams like New Zealand and the Netherlands, but they aren't. They shouldn't be ending in draws.
John Herdman is obviously a good coach, but he can do only so much with this team. The injuries have been tough too. As mentioned, Matheson, Sesselmann, Wilkinson, some of your core players, now even Schmidt. Tacnredi is a former shell of a player she once was and tweeners like Filigno.

Except when they put Matteson in last night, it was a right back which made no sense. Martins blew by her the rest of the night.

You're thinking of Wilkinson.
Matheson hasn't played yet.

Why is Schmidt still taking corners? She's atrocious at them. I think 20% or less actually make it into the mixer.

Matheson has always been the "go to" player for corner kicks and free kicks. She's very good at them (see Buchanan's goal versus USA in Winnipeg last year). Schmidt is usually the second in line to take set pieces. After that, no one has really stepped up to take them over the last two or three years. Schmidt may have injured her tailbone last night, so they may be forced to look at other options. If a free kick is deep in their third, Moscato or another CB usually takes them.

That's quite poor from the NZ coach. The Chinese coach interfered with play and got banished to the stands. Once the game was over he came back to congratulate his players and shake his counterparts hand. If he had just buggered off, he would be blasted today for not shaking hands.

Manager getting in the way of the game to stall, thats awful and poor sportsmanship. Watching his game it felt as if the Chinese team went down with fake injuries in the last 15 minutes just to stall. Then Wei over celebrates his moral victory and comes up to the NZ coach with a smug smirk on his face, I would've shaken his hand, but I don't blame him for refusing either.

Threatening clouds in the west and wind picking up here in Edmonton... looks like most of it will miss downtown. SUI-CMR should be in the clear with late game light-moderate rain possible, storms moving east-southeast.
