Or Boston takes the multiple first round picks from a team planning on a scorched earth rebuild and the circle of life continues.

Eklund posting that the Leafs are talking deal with the Canes something along the lines of Kessel+Kadri for Semin+5th overall.
Leafs could get 2 of Hanifin/Strome/Marner take on a toxic deal but giving up both Kadri and Kessel is quite a bit. With both Staals and Lindholm I don't see a fit for Kadri and a player like Gardiner might make more sense

Leafs are in a much better position to take on a contract like Semin. They don't have any young players that they have to worry about signing to big contracts for at least the next 3 years.
Still can't believe Rutherford signed Semin for that and can't believe that he ended up with another job after that.
Treliving should be on the phone with Rutherford everyday seeing what he good asset he can pick up for the great Ben Hanowski.

Makes no sense for the Canes seeing Kessel's deal is worth more money and longer than Semin's deal.

Pure dollars may not be better, but it's more dollars for someone that isn't a total disaster.

Well, there is the fact that Kessel is four years younger and a much more productive player than Semin.
Kessel (27). 119 goals last four seasons.
Semin (31). 62 goals last four seasons.

Leafs would be idiots to take that deal. You don't deal a legit goal scorer and a 3rd line goal scorer for a terrible contract and only the 5th overall. Year after year people overvalue prospects. Unless you're getting a sure fire future scorer, you don't deal Kessel and take on a ridiculous contract - let alone throw in Kadri.

Leafs would be idiots not to take this deal. Rebuild in Toronto is necessary and Semin's deal will be done by the time they turn it around and become a contender
Wasn't long ago some Flames fans were saying how do we replace Jay Bo's minutes? How do we replace Kippers 70 starts a year? How do we replace Iggy's 30 to 40 goals a year? We did it by drafting top players at the top of the draft adding extra picks and making good picks. I do agree that too many fans think too many teams need to dump star players and rebuild....but it is necessary for the leafs right now and if they can add 5th overall pick no brainer they should go for it. Even is it means losing Kessel (who is already gone).
Kadri? he is useless

McKenzie thinks Sharp will net the Blackhawks a 1st in this year's draft.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Really good ? on CHI. I believe Hawks want to get a 1st round pick in this draft. Patrick Sharp, I believe, will be traded. May get it there

Good luck with that, aging forward on a not that cheap contract who is reported to be a cancer in the dressing room.
Now that we have got the typical CPuck response out of the way, I could see a team that is looking for Vet help to push them past the second round parting with their 1st for Sharp's services.. but it won't be the Flames.

i wrote a few pages back that the same rumour was discussed on the sportsnet fan radio show here in toronto earlier in the week.
Seems this rumour may have legs.

Hard to put much faith in those locker room cancer rumours when the Blackhawks are in the cup finals again.

It's not like they're getting nothing for the pick. They get Kessel back. I think it's a fair trade, though probably not what's best for the future of their franchise.
