Gaborik was known for a long time to be invisible come playoff time. All it takes is a good playoff out of nash for people to change their. Maybe he had a bad injury these playoffs

5m cap hit pending UFA after next season and 32 (will be 33 + by that time). About says it all I think. He'll go to a contender if traded at all. I know the logic is to make room for Galchenyuk but if he falters, Desharnais and Eller won't fill the gap.
I'd wager Eller would move before Pleks.

I can see an Eller + trade to the Blues for Oshie

Believe Nash has a ntc or nmc so doubt he would waive to come here. When he left Columbus he was very selective as to where he would go and we weren't on his list.

Who said he's trash? Jay Bouwmeester isn't trash and Rick Nash is the Jay Bouwmeester of forwards. Really good player that always seems to leave you feeling disappointed. For that type of money you want a Patrick Kane type player that's going to get his points where it counts.

It is going to be an interesting draft with all the big names rumored to be on the move. The Leafs have their whole roster on the block, Rangers, Bruins, Hawks, Kings will all need to shed cap. Plenty of RFA's as well some teams will have tough choices. Boston decided to move Kessel rather than pay him, will teams do the same with their RFA's or will they move other core pieces to keep them?

Agreed should be really interesting, some of the teams are going to need to move contracts.
For example, Senators & Ducks could be moving a goalie. I would bet the Oilers will try to pick one up.
Leafs could try to trade Kessel
Hawks, Rangers, Kings etc will need to move salary,

A couple posters were insinuating that he's nothing more than a cap dump. At least that's the impression I got from a string of posts.
I was just pointing out that while his cap hit may be high, he's a very regular 30+ goal scorer, and a recent 42 goal scorer.

Friedman says that from what he can see LA and Tofolli are not close on contract terms.
He also says that Saad will likely be signed by CHI, but they likely won't match an offer sheet on Kreuger.
For the Rangers he sees two possible moves for them to get cap space, trade Nash or trade 1 of their defencemen.

Friedman was just pointing out now on 960 that while they don't like his playoff performances that the 40 regular season goals do help them get into the playoffs and it's hard to get into the playoffs so that's the predicament. He says he doesn't think they will offer St. Louis a contract.

Friedman still doesn't think 100% that Hiller or Ramo will back with the Flames next season.
Lots of goalies available. He said you can get Kari Lehtonen for 30 cents on the dollar.
Seems to think it is a buyer's market for goalies this offseason.

Friedman says there are rumors that Malkin is not happy in Pittsburgh and that he will welcome a move.
Friedman says likely won't get done until a sale is finalized.

We have so many forwards, plenty of them with untapped potential, it doesn't really make sense to pick up another and create an even bigger log jam...however, Kruger is a little bit intriguing to me.
Good skating, just 25, skill, kills penalties well, is usually strong in the face off dot...

I would take Kruger. If you gave the Hawks a pair of nearly NHL ready forwards like Agostino + Reinhart, they would have a hard time walking away. They could both slide into a 4th line role rather easily and they aren't likely going to get playing time with Calgary because we have what feels like 30 forwards.

When I look at our roster I think we are still shy 2 top 6 wingers. I just go ahead and have Monahan and Bennett as our top 2 centers (Bennett will be that good next year). Then we have Gaudreau and Hudler.
We could just see if Colborne can take another step, hope Jones gets back to being a 20+ goal scorer, hope Bouma takes another step, or a guy like Porier jumps right in.
My view of the team is if we can land 2 top 6 wingers and a #3 Dman this team will be a contender for home ice in the first round no matter what any of the other teams in our division do

100%. Those are our weeknesses (And maybe a real 3rd line center instead of Backs who can win faceoffs.
The problem is those are hard holes to address

Pens and Blues make pretty good trade partners. Backes, Oshie, Bouwmeester for Malkin and maybe a lesser Dman?

They are not the most difficult positions to fill. I would rather be searching for wingers and second pairing D than top pairing D and centers. We could likely address the winger need by trading a 2nd and free agency. Getting the Dman will be difficult but all we really truly need is an upgrade at 5 but I prefer to slide Russell to the third pair with Engellend and get a new partner for Wideman on second pair.
Also I think Backs is a great third line center and he just needs to improve on faceoffs. I believe our best trade chip for a Dman is Granlund or Backlund as I do not see both guys on the roster next year. I get the feeling Backs is here to stay though where Grablind has upside, is cheap and younger.
