Knowing Ottawa's luck, as soon as they trade Lehner for a 2nd round pic he'll turn it around with another team.
They trade their goalies like the Nazi guy chose the Holy grail in the 3rd Indiana Jones movie. Poorly.

That's because he's one of the top forwards in hockey. And has been so for 11 years. At age 30. Three straight Olympics for Team Canada. He's paid exactly what he's worth.

Flames aren't close enough yet to justify giving up young assets for Nash.

I think Nash is the right type of player to go after. Big, fast, pure goal scorer, not too old and with all those years in Columbus, he doesn't have a lot of playoff miles on him. Long enough contract that he will be here when we want to contend but expires when we need money off the books. Plus, with an high cap hit there wouldn't be a ton of contending team who could afford him which would allow him to be aquire at a cheaper cost.

He disappears in the playoffs and would cost an arm and a leg, big no.

I'm sure the Oiler organization can get him on track…no problem.

The only way I would take Nash is if they paid us like the Kings, Coyotes, and Hurricanes tried to pay us to take Ribiero, Richards and Ward.

I think that is kind of ridiculous. Nash had a monster regular season. I would be okay with a marginal offer like Jones + 53rd

Yes, I think most of us would be fine if an offer like that got us Nash. In fact, we'd all be very happy. But it won't, and we shouldn't offer much more, so Nash is not a realistic target.
I think he's a great player, he's would instantly become one of the oldest players on the team. He fits the strategies of at least 10 other teams more than he fits the strategy of the Flames (rebuild).

Lets agree to disagree. I think he is highly overrated, you clearly don't.

We go after nash and the first guy rather asks for is Brodie. No thanks. Then they start coming for Bennett. No thanks.
I really don't think NYR are gonna give us nash for anybody we would be comfortable parting with. I don't think we are good trade partners.
Hudler ++ for Nash? Fine but then we better sign Williams too to pick up the slack come playoffs.

Nash would purely be a cap dump for NYR. 7.8m cap hit is absurd, it's auto-cap jail even if the term isn't too bad.

Just say no to Nash. He's the Jay Bouwmeester of forwards. Has the size, skating, and skill but no fire as he's more a passenger on the bus than the driver. Yeah he finally had a rebound regular season but when things mattered in the playoffs he was his pedestrian old self as his playoff numbers are inflated due to a couple of big games were he got over half his point totals. I for one hope the Rangers don't get out of another bad deal and have to ride out that contract.

Even with Burkie's help our 2nd year GM should not be trading with Sather, better and more experienced have been burned by him.

I get that people dislike Nash, and I don't want the Flames to give up young assets to trade for him, but....
...the guy has scored 30 or more goals in 8 of his last 10 FULL NHL seasons, including 42 this past season. Very few players score goals like he does. Let's not act like he's a total trash player.

Totally agree.
Good player with no context, but a depreciating talent with an expensive contact and a penchant for not producing when it matters is not worth the price that will inevitably be paid

I'd love Nash on our team, but not if we had to give up anything significant. And you can bet that they will ask for something significant.
The best part about our team right now is that I can think things like "Player X might not be doing well right now, but imagine if he was playing with Johnny Hockey..."

None of the players I mentioned are trash players, even Richards. However, Nash has 3 years left at 8 million. That is a huge amount of cap space for what amounts to a regular season performer. I wouldn't give up anything of significance. I would only throw Mason Raymond and a lesser prospect or two like Reinhart at them for Nash. Anything more and I'd rather use that 8 million and sign some other players instead. I'd rather spend say 11 million on Justin Williams and Cody Franson than I would 8 on Nash + assets.

Yeah imagine getting a 40 goal scorer for Raymond and trash!
Seriously, I have no issues arguing that you don't build a team around Nash, but he is one of the top 5 pure goal scorers in the NHL.

It would never happen, but unless the cost was that ridiculously cheap I would rather use the asset of cap space on players that perform all year long instead of vanishing in April.
