Hate to go here but,
Do you think he dissolved the bodies in acid?
Would that suffice to bumping up the 2nd degree charge to 1st?

I thought the degree had to do with pre-meditated vs reactionary.
When does pre-meditated begin? If he kidnapped all 3 of them and from there decided on killing all 3, is that murder 1? Or does he have to have evidence of it being planned out before hand?
IE. If he went with the intention of killing the Grandpa (murder 1) and then decided to kill the other two after finding them there (murder 2?) does that get bumped after he decides?
I'm always confused about the difference between murder 2 and 3.

If I remember correctly, researching the possibilities back in the month after this horrible event happened indicated second-degree is escalated to first-degree if the murder takes place during a kidnapping.

First degree murder in Canada is
- Planned and deliberate
- Murder of a peace officer
- While committing/attempting sexual assault, and same with a weapon
- Contract killings
- While committing or attempting kidnapping
- During a hijacking
- Committing criminal harassment or intimidation

Given his background, it's a thought, horrible as it is to contemplate, that has crossed my mind since the very beginning, and I don't think they'll ever find bodies.

It would take years to dissolve a body to where there's nothing left, they have found sulfuric acid barrells with bodies in them 3 years old in Mexico and they still identify them.

Sulfuric acid is not the best acid to dissolve bodies in. Plenty of other better options or methods though....

Apparently caustic soda (sodium hydroxide/lye) can do it in a day.

I watched W5 about the guy who killed those G4 workers in Edmonton.
He got murder 1 after killing one of the people he didn't know was there because once he learned they were there he reloaded his gun and went and shot him. That made it murder 1 apparently. If I remember it correctly.

My wife was in the courtroom for part of the preliminary trial - would posting what she heard violate the publication ban?

That whole murder 1/2/3 is american speak. No "murder 3" in Canada. It's either first degree or second degree.
edit: and most likely upgraded to first degree for:
-while committing or attempting to commit kidnapping and forcible confinement
IMO. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_%28Canadian_law%29

Yes it would, don't post on any message boards you'll get in trouble.
Personal communications aren't caught, "publication" I believe is to the world-at-large, and certainly includes message boards, twitter, facebook etc.
