Thanks, did some asthetic touches too (blacked out parts that were a stock grey, like the grill), looks pretty slick and mean. Sounds mean too, new exhaust and intake. Also put on adjustable coilovers and some transmission components (new bushing, short shifter, new trans mounts).

Yeah, it's going to need a paint job. The PO (one of a few) had a respray done over the original paint about 12 years ago, which doesn't look too bad, but it's starting to chip off in places and is pretty scratched up. There's also a dent in the RF fender where the last owner hit a road closed sign which has been badly "paintless dent" repaired

Unfortunately all my money has gone into the mechanical side, so that is going to have to wait a while. This car was really badly neglected by the time I got to it and it needed a huge amount of work (and $$$, also many sleepless nights) just to get it running safely and reliable. Buying a 35 year old car is not for the faint of heart

She's an old girl with lots of battle scars and a long way to go, but I love her just the same.

PS - Anybody here recommend / know of a good paint / body shop?

Cosmos Collision maybe? They do specialize in German imports, Porsche & Audi mainly. The owner seemed like a bit of a Porsche nut when I was in there with my S4. The work came out great, but they definitely take their time.

lol I'm saying you're all old because this particular style is pretty new and all of your reactions were to a tee what I'd expect from the Barrett Jackson crowd. It's not fast and the furious. I think you're forgetting how that phase of tuning cars looked like.

Those are cluttered, ugly, body kitted and spoilered up cars.

The whole point of "Stanced" and "Slammed" cars is to keep them as clean as possible. Low and clean. The good ones stay away from lips and spoilers (usually taking off spoilers).

Yeah it is all for show but that's what some people like.

EDIT: That GTI is sick. I love old clean, restored golfs.

And that's where my old comment comes in. I don't know a single person my age that's into imports and wouldn't like those cars I posted in "Good". I'm sure they exist though, cause like you said, some people just have bad taste.

Come on dude. There are not two classes of car people, slammed stuff you like and Barrett Jackson muscle cars.

Also those slammed cars you posted are just as big as a fad as the fast furious cars. Utterly ruining a cars ride and handling and probably performance purely for the aesthetic will become a fad the same way slamming a mini truck was. There is a balance of the ascetics of a vehicle and the driving characteristics. Putting a Subaru on the ground with terrible camber and that balance is way out of whack IMO.

Oh I agree, it is a phase and I wouldn't do it to my car. I just like how they look personally.

I'm in the middle with you guys. Slight lowering, nice rims, nice looking exhaust and that's the extent of cosmetic modding I'd do.

I just still have an appreciation for those slammed and stanced cars when it's done well and specifically that matte black M3 that started this whole ordeal. I thought that M3 was gorgeous.

I love imports and always have. Even at "your age" (wow I can actually remember that far back!), I thought that slammed look was ridiculous. And IMO saying that looks soooooooo much different from the "Fast & Furious" style is about the equivalent of saying Electro House and Deep House are completely different genres of music. Take away the goofy vinyl wrap and they're still in the same category.

Is there an issue with doing this? If they want larger tires... they can do what they like to their own car. Rubbing inside the fenders is cringeworthy

As cheeseball as it is, if people want to do that to a mass-produced new Subaru, that's one thing. What really irks me is when you see older cars, ones that had relatively low production runs, getting the same treatment. I believe there are certain cars out there that, after a certain time, become rolling time capsules, and we need to try to preserve them for future car guys to enjoy.

An air-cooled 911 should not be getting its suspension destroyed or body modified so some poseur can look cool to his high school peers and polak. These are the types of cars, that because of all the safety and environmental regs, we will never see again. You just don't see the same hand-build, forever-car build-quality in a modern Porsche...no matter what the company's marketing department tries to tell you.

It's one thing to do what Singer does, and take a donor-911 and do an extremely high quality restomod that honors and enhances the qualities of the original...it's a whole other thing totally ruin a perfectly good car in the name of "stance". You're not only being a giant poseur, you're ruining a dwindling stock of cool cars, and driving up the price of any existing ones. Some cars are virtually impossible to find unmolested these days (I mean good luck trying to find a clean RX7 or MR2 anymore).
