Whatever happens this series is a learning experience for our team.
I'm not so much worried about the outcome of the series, I'm just excited to see how our kids respond to getting man-handled. I think they have too much heart and pride to stay down on the mat.

The game went as I expected and posted in the GDT... Now that the first one is out of the way, I expect a much better effort in game 2.

I can only imagine how many things were broken by Gio during this game. Watching your team get beat up like that is really tough for us, imagine being the Captain.
Not sure how the Flames can win this one, those Ducks are so big and skilled..
If Ferland is out I think they have to call up Wolf, he might be able to help fill that void. But it seems as though a few big hits aren't going to throw the Ducks off their game like it did Vancouver, need a new strategy.

This is a new level of playoffs, and the team didn't look quite ready.
Hopefully they can bounce back Sunday.
Going to need Ferland and Hudler to be healthy.

I kind of wonder if we should be trying to out physical Anaheim, they seem to want us to try to run after them.
Almost think we need to try and embrace our speed and skill a little more.

Watched the highlights again. 2-3 questionable goals but the bigger issue was the defensive coverage in our own zone. I suspect part of the problem is that we've just finished playing 6 straight games against the Canucks and having to defend their perimeter cycle game. Well, the Ducks aren't afraid to go to the net and drive it down your throat, hence all of the goals scored down low and in the slot.
A couple of days to watch film and correct some scheme issues and hopefully we'll see a much tighter unit in game 2.

Ugh. A win in game 2 would be huge in terms of evening the series and giving them confidence, but it is not do or die by any means. This Flames team is a much different team at home so losing game 2 and winning games 3 and 4 would bring this back to a best of 3.

Anyways, this is an older example but still 100% accurate:
The TSN Jets broadcast of a game vs the Flames Sportsnet. Obviously its the exact same camera source.
The TSN feed is brighter, more vivid, and sharper. How is this an issue still?
Another comparison, this time between Sportsnet and the Predators regional FSN feed:

It has been said in this thread all ready, but we played like poopoo and lost. Had we played at the top of our game and lost I would be really concerned. I will wait to see how the team comes back for game 2.

Agreed. Man they have mastered the art of the cheap shot. Wow.
But can we dig them out every 4 years when we need them for team Canada?

The Flames will be better next game but the question is will it be enough to win?

The Ducks imposed their will on the Flames and it showed. They played the game they wanted to play and that's why they came out on top. So the Flames need to NOT play how Anaheim wants and play their own game. We're not a cycling team. Until the VAN series, we weren't a truculent physical team. We never were all season. The coaches need to adjust and correct this. Use our speed and skill to make plays. Stop playing into the Ducks hands. We don't have the personnel to play a physical, grinding game. The Vancouver series gave the illusion we are. WE'RE NOT!! Look how well that style worked for Winnipeg.
We need to make the Ducks play a skilled game. I think we come out on top in that regard. Make this a series about speed down the wings and getting shots to the net. The Hawks aren't an overlay physical team and they relay on skill to make plays. They don't let teams impose a physical style game on them. They just stick with their own style. That's what the Flames need to do.

Have one defenceman hang back just a touch while his partner and centerman line up across the blueline. The wingers will be roaring in and blow right past the center/D2. If D1 can beat the wingers to the puck and chip it up off the half wall, the backcheckers can converge on the boards and force the play out.

Totally agree with this. With that said, I think if they are going to cheap shot Johnny there needs to be some real plan that doesn't involve benching him (do we run the goalie?)

15 lbs average differential according to cbc. Flames have to use more of their speed to exploit the ducks defence

This is extremely valuable lessons for the youngsters. I have no doubt whatever happens this series will help the boys next year and they'll be chomping at the bit to get back into a battle with teams like the Ducks, especially in the playoffs.

It looked like Canada vs Latvia out there last night.
Wasn't pretty.
Has anyone try contacting Sportsnet about the poor production value? I've tweeted them but they DGAF...not surprising when they have a 12 year monopoly.

Yup.
The Canucks series made us think we were something we were not.
We are a patient team that uses speed an skill to attack, we are trying to play a heavy grind it down game.
IMO we played game 1 right into the Ducks hands. (Goaltending didn't help)
If Ferland and Hudler are out for game two I would get Raymond and Poirier into the lineup. Speed kills.
