I'm shocked that puckluck, moon, and Estrada had something negative to say about a guy who will soon receive the Jack Adams award. Shocked I tell you.

What purpose exactly does this post serve? Whether you like them or not Moon and Puckluck aren't here to defend themselves so nice job kicking former posters when they are down and out.
I'll admit I was totally wrong in my initial assessment of Hartley but that initial season was just awful. Worst Flames team since the young guns era and there was the stink of nepotism with the hire from the start not to mention the bungled ROR offer making the season worse than it had to be.
However things worked themselves out over the next season as the old core was moved, Burke was hired and Feaster was let go. That chain of events has simply worked for this franchise as you have to question if the team would be where it is today if Feaster was kept on as there was obviously some disconnect there between coach and GM with Baertschi seeing the day Feaster was fired Sven finally got sent down. Burke gave him the vote of confidence and from that day on Hartley did things his way. Hartley's done a magnificent job this season and is my pick for the Jack Adams.

All of which should have made the Flames competitive by the 2016-17 season.

This team isn't going to be that way (or shouldn't be) for a few more years so having him around might actually do more harm than good. Brining in new players, younger players, that have a new way of doing things should be met with a new coach with a fresh outlook. I don't care what Hartley has done in the past with other teams, I don't even care what he did this year so far or what he's going to do with this team for the rest of the year. His style just doesn't fit with the new NHL and if the Flames want to move forward, I just think they should get with the times and adapt
|
will you shut the f*** up already, you're making us look bad! Stupid past Poe969 was talking out of the wrong end when he wrote that. Had a point about younger players and new system and whatnot but completely wrong about Hartley. I thought he was more of a players coach and favoured vets to rookies. I was wrong and it's not the first time and won't be the last. Hartley is going to win the Jack Adams this year and he's already made a Bobleiver out of me.

I don't think he was a pessimist. He was one of those individuals that formed his own beliefs and never waivered from them regardless of evidence to the contrary. There were certain teams, players, coaches etc that he never liked and was never going to like or give them credit regardless of what they did. Without getting into what got him banned I didn't think he was a bad poster until he got on a tangent on a player or coach that he had it in for to which he would sidetrack a thread.

He was a Flames pessimist, which is different than being just generally pessimistic. Almost by default, moon took as low a view as he reasonably could about all things Calgary, and tended to give the benefit of doubt to every other team by comparison (well, except for the Oilers). He was consistently pessimistic about the Flames, and it was odd.

Reviewing these old threads for the most part reinforces perceptions. There are a lot of thoughtful posts in thread, mostly from posters who don't post a lot but make it count when they do. Then there are the usual suspects, some of them banned, whose subtraction from this site improved the dialogue we get to read. Still others just post too much and never admit mistakes.

It was the best jersey not currently in my collection.

No I believe if he didn't like the GM or head coach of the Flames at the time he would be a pessimist because as I said before he was not a person that would change his opinion to conform with the formation of factual evidence to the contrary. He didn't like Feaster or Hartley so he wasn't going to give them credit regardless as today if he's still here he likely still isn't giving Hartley his due. Everything was black and white with that guy and if he indeed liked the players and coaches he would support them and if he didn't they were never going to get his support. Anyway that's all I'm going to say about Moon.

Held onto his preconceived notions in the face of contradicting factual evidence.
Sounds like an excellent poster.

I personally really liked the few posts in which the team was readily acknowledged as terrible, but with the silver lining caveat that under Bob the Flames were much more exciting to watch.
