I think, more than anything, this thread shows how terrible previous teams and B Sutter were.

I'm just impressed with Treliving/Burke in that they gave Hartley an honest evaluation and chance. Most GM's want their own guy period but they obviously stood back and were open to evaluate Hartley's performance without bias. It would seem they are doing this with player evaluations as well which is why we are seeing the right players get opportunity.

I don't know. Hartley's record was not very good in his first season with the same core that Brent failed with. I don't discount the excellent job Hartley has done but IMO a big part about the change in the team's fortunes centers around a change in captaincy and complete removal of the old core of players.

A lot of the complaining earlier in this thread was about Hartley riding the vets and not giving young guys a chance. But if you look at it, Backlund and Brodie are the only young guys that were on that 2013 team, that are playing for us right now. Also, I believe some of this was evaluating which vets to keep around for the rebuild. I'd say they did a great job with that.

Fire Hartley and then immediately offer him 100x more money to rejoin.

Perhaps I should have said they were "uncoachable" rather than terrible. I think that things were getting really stale in that locker room and it was evident that the team was going nowhere. We could have fired Hartley and hired Babcock and it wouldn't have made a big difference.

This has to be one of the greatest coaching jobs ever in the NHL. What an unbelievable coach and human being Bob is.
Yeah we needed a culture change the sutter family created a miserable atmosphere around the team like a black cloud.
New players and a new attitude under coach Bob who has taken a bunch of rookies and bit piece players and turned turned them into a exciting group that enjoys the game.
This team plays exciting hockey, this isn't some team playing in a shell trying to win 1-0 which is the part that is amazing.
It's probably inevitable that Bob will be gone one day but his fingerprints will be a huge reason for the turnaround.

We replaced a bad captain with a good captain and a bad core with a young group of players willing to be coached. Those were decisions out of Hartley's hands.

And somehow the GMs who made those decisions also hired/kept Hartley.

Oh I'm defending Hartley here. Scotty Bowman wearing Vince Lombardi's hat couldn't get a winning record out of what Harts walked into.
