maybe motion games have run their course like rock band before them. to support your point, I would have thought that there were more Kinect games in development since m$ insisted that everyone buy a Kinect at launch. I like my Kinect for voice control, but definitely there is no compelling game reason to buy Kinect on Xbox one especially if you have the 360.
that is really all I was saying on the software side they have abandoned the thing...Kinect Sports Adventure was a early title (launch title?) and since then? upcoming kinect games? Seems like they have shifted their focus and its probably a good thing.

Xbox One April system update

http://majornelson.com/2015/04/06/xb...now-available/

Quote:
• Party chat improvements – Additional icons and notifications within the party chat experience to help you understand your connection and microphone status. The party app will help you get your microphone enabled and show you when privacy settings or networking issues are blocking communication with particular party members.
• Game hub links – You’ll see activity feed items when any of your friends follow a game, and you’ll also be able to get back to a game’s hub from activity feed posts related to the game – including feed items about the game’s achievements, game clips and screenshots.
• Achievement notifications – With this update, you’ll also see the achievement’s description in the notification so you know what you did to earn this achievement without having to open the achievements app.
• What’s On – The What’s On area is now available for Xbox One users in the U.S., Canada, and the UK. In it, you’ll find links to popular videos, games, movies, TV shows, game broadcasts and clips, along with Trending TV shows if you have configured OneGuide for your Xbox One console.

I doubt that he'd be back in any sort of position at Xbox if he did. The division has done a complete 180 since Phil took over.

Chemgear is usually all over these things on XBone games so I'm surprised he hasn't posted a link.

I'm sure there will be a future patch to improve performance as this is no different than a lot of big titles in that they would have been served better by being delayed and further optimized prior to launch.
I think Namco's 20 year patent on mini-games during load screens just expired or will be expiring soon. I'm surprised more developers are not taking advantage of this.

I liked the space ship mini-game during intermissions in Blades of Steel.

I remember playing Pong in the loading screen for one of the PS2 era Test Drive games.

One time a buddy and I had played Pong probably for an hour just because it was so addicting, when we actually then went to play the game it froze because we took so long.

Hey Rhettzky, no idea if you completed your upgrade but Giantbomb recently posted this video.

Microsoft recent quarterly earnings numbers. 1.6 million combined 360's and Xbones shipped to retailers over the quarter.

For comparison, there were 1.7 million PS4's alone sold to customers (not just shipped) from January 4 to March 1 (2 months).

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbo.../1100-6426847/

Microsoft on Thursday reported earnings for the quarter ended March 31, announcing that the company shipped (i.e. sold to retailers) 1.6 million Xbox consoles, which includes Xbox 360 and Xbox One, during the period. This compares to a combined shipment tally of 2 million consoles during the same period last year.

The company attributed the downturn primarily to "lower revenue from Xbox Platform," but offset by higher revenue from Microsoft's Surface line.

So, with what Valve is doing...

I know they've done the math, but I just don't understand how it adds up. Mods are very much a value adding service for games like Skyrim. Hell, Bethesda has probably sold a million downloads because of the strength of the modding community alone.

But if you start charging for these mods, especially when big names like SkyUI go over, it's going to hurt actual sales of the game itself. I think the losses there will more than offset the revenue from the mods.

There will be people who buy them, but the PC community is not like the phone gaming community.

I don't get it. I don't get the justification behind enraging a large portion of the community and customers. I just hate the direction gaming is going.

Yeah, there are a lot of people upset with the whole Skyrim mod monetization change. I wonder what the fallout will be over time. Steam has already cut down and deleted a lot of feedback and negative responses.

Valve is banking on people being upset for a bit, then biting the bullet, shrugging, and going with it anyway. Seems to be Valve's SOP, really.

Gaben did an AMA on Reddit and it seems to be they want to find a middle ground.

The issue wasn't just the monetization, but also how little the actual mod creators themselves got for it.

There is way more to the issue than simply money. What happens if someone charges for a mod that uses assets created by another modder? What happens if the developers patch the main game and that breaks a mod you paid for? What is Valve doing to stop people from going onto Nexus and stealing other people's work and putting it up on the workshop for a fee?

It's a very slippery slope. I like the stance Tripwire Interactive has taken with Killing Floor 2 saying that there will be no paid mods for the game and charging for mods will be against the EULA.
