Talk about folding like a cheap tent. Not to mention that brutal, brutal giveaway in his own zone where he threw a no look pass while he was along the boards to infront of his own net. Who, with any remote hockey IQ does that? Why wouldn't you just try to chip it out?

Even though he scored a goal, I might give that award to Brandon McMillan. That guy was a liability in every game he played.
Sven was exactly what he was here - a guy simply occupying a roster spot. Nothing more, nothing less.

You get playing time against the team that traded you, in the playoffs, when you have to put it all on the line..............and you come up with that?
Yikes.

In the regular season he wore #42 for the Canucks, but for some reason switched to #47 for the playoffs.

He is what he is. Burke hung his hat on the move to make him the poster boy of prospects that aren't going to get us there. Sucked for him, and there was really no way out. Might have cost us a guy who may or may not be an nhl regular, but everything else since then has gone so right, so who the hell cares! We have a second rnd pick, let him go off and have a marginal nhl career with a rebuilding/retooling canucks.

He basically said they lost because of bad calls and goalie interference. I was about to post the quote to the trade thread but it was locked and I'm durnk and have now forgotten the exact verbiage.
Although it struck me as the perfec twhiney siwss accent.

I think at this point, he might not even have the success Jamie Lundmark had, might not even be Hnat Domenchelli. Not even enough fight for Marty Murray. Maybe more like Sergei Varlamov.

I trust Burke. He has more hockey knowledge and experience than all of us. He didn't see it in Sven, and it's becoming quite apparent that he's right (so far)

I didn't even know that Baertschi played tonight until i heard him on 960 on the drive home whining about them losing because of the interference call in the 3rd. Really that's what your excuse is.
Oh Sven you are a perfect fit for the Csucks.

He'll be gifted a spot, there really is no one better. Seriously look at their depth chart. Poor, pitiful canucks.

The second I heard him him making excuses was probably the first time I was truly happy he was gone.
Always they same story with Sven. Thinks he was good enough, doesn't need to change how they played, and it is always somebody else's fault.
Fits in with the Canucks culture much better then with the culture this Flame team is building.

All of the things he says are just lack of confidence in his ability to survive the physical battle I think. A guy like Gaudreau took hits from behind, slashes and a stick to the face that looked like it broke his nose. And he got right back up after every one of them, Sven doesn't have that in him. Gaudreau leans into people and pushes his weight around making his presence felt, that's the difference between an NHL'er and a minor leaguer. Having the confidence to go into the gritty areas thinking about the play and not whether you're going to get hurt or not because in the NHL most of the rink is the gritty area.

Yeah, that's exactly it. Decent-to-good player with the puck on his stick, but he only has the puck on the stick for a small fraction of the ice time he gets. He doesn't battle hard enough like Gaudreau does to get more touches of the puck. The rest of his ice time is spent being ineffective at other parts of the game and always looking like he's a step behind, always chasing the puck but never getting it.
In the regular season he'll probably be more successful producing, but I ultimately wouldn't want him if I'm building a contender because he'll be a non-factor in the playoffs.

What I seen of Baertschi in his first two seasons is that he was getting beat up on the boards and took a lot of heavy hits. Whether he got his bell rung too many times, I can't say but he looks to be gun shy and possibly damaged goods. This season he came in bigger and stronger but still loses the puck battles as he isn't big and strong enough. He could try to compensate by having a quick stick like Gaudreau but that doesn't seem to be his game and like he says, he just wants to play his game which isn't good enough.

This. Look at the area where Johnny scored his goal last night. He's the smallest guy in the league but he goes to dirty areas in front of the crease and pots goals.
Sven is 3 inches taller than him (officially – probably more like 6 inches in reality) and 40 pounds heavier but he's nothing more than a perimeter player these days.
Baertschi is always just behind the play – I was noticing it when he was a Flame and last night I noticed it as well. He's one step behind where he needs to be in order to make a good play. I don't know if that is because he's a bit slower than he needs to be or if it's a mental thing. Leaning towards the latter. Either fear or uncertainty is slowing down his mental game, and it's crippled his abilities in the NHL. For a prospect who was praised for having a high hockey IQ he certainly isn't demonstrating it.
