I also like in this interview he says "Now with Winnipeg out, we will be playing in the loudest barn in the NHL - we will draw energy from that".

I like it .. They're confident in front of that crowd, as they should be. They are a completely different team there. Hartley is the better coach and will get the matchups he's looking for.
I expect Backlund and Bennett to have a big game.
Called Flames in 6, still boblieve it will be

I like it. If you listen to the quote, he is really just pumped to be playing at home with the great crowd. I also think he understood that they didn't play well enough to win game 5. Correct on both counts.

I like it. But I am still concerned how the Flames play looks completely different in the dome vs Vancouver. I think it bodes well if we have home ice, but I am unhappy we aren't playing our best when away.

Above is your first post. Considering the pooper of a game we just dropped don't be surprised when your flippant little post gets the reaction it did. Especially when the player in question was one of the few guys gutting it out there that game, one assist through 5 or not.

Do you have anything to contribute about Backlund, his comments, or the Flames heading into game 6? Wait, let me guess, "Not as much as an embarrassment as the Sabres, Mr. Embarassment Expert!". Zing!
|
It's also an embarrassment to the board when someone can't properly gauge the emotion of the messageboard itself. One really should have some self awareness, think about what they're about to post, think about how they're framing it and if that post coming from an opposing fan is appropriate in the moment.
It was a catty flippant little dick post to start. Nothing major obviously, but taking in the player, when it was said, after that game last night I'm left to wonder why you're so surprised you got some bites back.

In addition, nitpicking a single stat to criticize Backlund over such as total points (in what has been a fairly low-scoring series) reflects badly on judgement, especially coming after arguably one of his best games this series.

Backlund was our best player last night and one of the best over the last 3 games. If you're only looking at goals and assists to evaluate a player that typically isn't relied on to produce, you don't really understand hockey and/or you're just trolling.

I've said before, but the ice in Van throws off the Flames passing game.
If the Saddledome ice is a C-, the Rogers Arena ice is an F+.

Bart: Remember when Tom had you in that headlock and you screamed, "I'm a hemophiliac!" and when he let you go, you kicked him in the back? Homer: Yeah. Bart: Will you teach me how to do that? Homer: Sure, boy. First, you gotta shriek like a woman and keep sobbing until he turns away in disgust. That's when it's time to kick some back. And then when he's lying down on the ground... Bart: Yeah. Homer: Kick him in the ribs. Bart: Yeah. Homer: Step on his neck. Bart: Yeah. Homer: And run like hell.

You could see that ice working its voodoo though. When someone would receive a pass to the tape, the puck would often be rolling or standing up on end (Brodie bobbled a tape-to-tape pass on the PP from this). Sometimes the puck sticks after a fresh flood too. If you're a fast transition team like the Flames this hurts your game.

Apparently the actual guarantee part of the quote was missed when it's being quoted.
Either that, or there wasn't any actual guarantee, and this is a non story.
You don't have to be too smart to figure out which option is the correct one.

Backlund's been averaging the most ice time out of any forward outside the top line. He is being relied on to put up a few points and he's not. Sure he had a great game but that counts for very little when you don't get on the scoreboard, especially when having just a little more finish last night would likely have us looking ahead at Anaheim instead of nervous for tomorrow.
I like the Flames guys, I want us to win ad am cheering hard. No need for angry posts at me because I think Backlund should be putting up a few points.

Not buying the ice excuse at all. Sound weak.
Both teams play on the same ice.

I hear what you are saying, but don't agree with the bolded above. Obviously it'd be nice for him to produce but his game is much much more than points. I don't really think we're disagreeing ultimately. Just that chirping Backlund in an inflammatory way for only having one assist, after his best game of the playoffs, after a tough loss, is what people are reacting to.

Backlund also made that fantastic no-look breakout pass on the Brodie/Bennett goal in Game 4, which he doesn't end up with a point on.
They were pinned in and under pressure and he creates an immediate 3-on-2.

Except one team plays on and practices on the really terrible ice 10x more than the other.
Speaking as a mediocre skater and okay passer IRL, ice quality can certainly affect your passing game.

Then you adjust.
Both teams play on the same ice. If the Canucks can make clean passes you should be able to as well. This is the NHL. Give me a break.
The ice is not an excuse.
