I made a post about Backlund needing to back up his words with offense. How you relate this at all to the Buffalo Sabres, their season, their draft, or a regular season game against the Arizona Coyotes would be an interesting connection to see. Please elaborate.

I just think it's interesting that you're pointing out a player who is "underperforming" to your standards, while being a fan of one the the most embarrassing underperforming franchises in the NHL.
Subject matter expert I guess.

This, after the Flames took the lead last night the Canucks played well But they looked like they were ready to take an unemotional bow and head home for the year, up until they scored and finally got a bit of energy.
That team just was not mentally prepared for the playoffs, hopefully the small spark they found for 1/2 a game last night will not last.

As long as Backlund can backup his words with this play on the ice in game 6. Then I am all for it.

I expect the rest of the team to back up his words along with him. Especially his new linemate in Bennett.

I love it but the Flames better back that up with strong play. The post-game interviews have me a bit worried -- looks like everyone is exhausted, or even complacent about the loss.

So, just trolling me and the thread with a pointless off-topic comment about another team then. Noted. Posts like this are an embarrassment to this message board and the great inclusive culture we've developed here.
Do you have anything to contribute about Backlund, his comments, or the Flames heading into game 6? Wait, let me guess, "Not as much as an embarrassment as the Sabres, Mr. Embarassment Expert!". Zing!

Backlund was a monster last night. His low production is unsustainable.
I don't mind it. A little smack talk is always interesting.

0 goals, 1 assist on team leading 18 shots this series. Corsi crowd love affair but more Swede than Finish. Played a great game 5 though and more tangibles then just points but would have been satisfied if he found a way to bury his golden chance with about 5 mins left. Those are the stats I care about.
Ballsy quote at first glance but if you listen to the whole interview or at least the answer to that question it's not as bold as Francis and media are making it to be. Easy to pick "there's no way we're losing at home" then making a story about it.
None story.

Lol these things always get way overblown.
Of course he says they'll win the next game. Like really.
I also hate how it always gets compared to Messier. Like he's the first one to ever claim his team will win their upcoming game.

I don't get why some people get all riled up when a player says something like this. It's ALWAYS the reporter asking the question. Get mad at them if you need to vent.

Oh how this thread would be different if a Sedin said it.

Pretty sure Henrick Sedin guaranteed a victory in game 7 of 2011 as well.
Personally I like it. To me it shows confidence and says this team is not rattled and will bounce back strong in front of a crazy home crowd

He's right anyways. There's no way they lose that game on Saturday.

I like it.
I'm not sure he said it in the same context as Messier, like, a rallying cry type thing. He just said what he believes.
Also, he's not a dooshbag, If someone like Burrows said it then it would definitely be bulletin board material.

At least he didn't say math is difficult. That would have really cost him the playoff series.

We won't win game 7 on the road so lets hope he's right.
I like it. He was one of our only good players last night.
Guys my favorite Flame though so I'm biased.

Total non-story. Its not like he took to the podium and proclaimed "We will win game 6."
In the aftermath of a tough loss, probably still a tad emotional he took the mindset that Hartley has instilled. Shake it off and reload for the next one. Just like the rest of the team should be he is confidently looking forward to the next game.
If the media runs with this as some sort of calculated Messier esque move, I will be annoyed.
Also, the way Backlund has elevated his game as the series has developed is a great story.
