Can't believe I turned a ticket down for tonight.
Don't think I've sufficiently been kicked in the balls over this yet.

It's funny because Sven wanted out. I guess he wanted the Flames to wait a couple more months before they gave up on him?

So much ignorance. So much desperation. So much false hope.
I'm so sick of this stupid Baertschi drama.

We get it Sven. Shut the #### up and move on.

Eddie's going to have time to write his legend from the bench.

The Legend of Lack! Lack of winning maybe.

1-3 record with 3.03 GAA and a, .886 SV%

What a legend!

I honestly think Sven is intimidated playing against his former teammates. It's going to get into his head. Couple that with the toxic pressure cooker atmosphere tonight with the fans demanding he turn the series around and he's going to collapse like a broken card table.

Well he will have a clip board and pen on the bench, so he will be able to do a lot of writing!

I'm fairly certain soon we're going to hear complaints that Baertschi's team mates in Calgary gave him suggestions on grocery stores to shop at - and he just never felt the same at Safeway in comparison to Co-op. This change of grocer contributed to ruining his confidence.

All Sven is doing is putting so much pressure on himself to perform, when he falls flat on his face then what sven?

I agree. Seems to me like he's trying to overly pysch himself up for the game. Masking his fear maybe? I guess we'll see tonight. I'm predicting he'll try too much and get himself in trouble with lazy hooking penalties.

I don't normally. I got tired of the endless NBA talk on 960. (Ferrell on the Bench) You would think the Fan could come up with more appropriate programming considering the occasion.

That last bit about feeling slighted definitely sounded more like Tomlinson was speculating. But the first bit, about Baertschi not feeling as comfortable in #27 sounded much more like information gleaned from a conversation with the player himself.

The first part is ridiculous because of how trivial it is, and for how badly it reflects on Baertschi's psychological fortitude.

The second part is just ignorant, and makes no sense in light of the significance that Burke attached to the lower numbers. Besides, I believe that the numbers belonging to Ferland, Bennett, and Jooris are training camp numbers. I don't believe that players in the past two years have been given the option of the lower "team" numbers mid season. Of course these players still have their old numbers, because that is how it works around here. This is precisely how Baertschi was handled as well.

the Flames "gave up on Sven"

Vancouver thought so highly of him he started the playoffs in the AHL and is coming into game 5 because other guys got injured

Can someone confirm? I heard the Canucks just signed two Russians.

Summeroff and Teeoff.

I hope that the reports are true and Sven is angry and resentful and "wants to show his old team" and that he has a chip on his shoulder.

The whole, I'm going to show you rarely works in sports let alone at the highest level of professional sports.

In pro sports everything is about assignment and execution, where you need to go and who you need to pick up.

If Sven isn't focused on that his team mates are going to need to bail him out. If Sven isn't focused on the game itself and is thinking about himself and his feelings, he's going to make mistakes.

Personal vendettas only work in pro wrestling and roller derby. The secret to a pro game is focusing on the job that you need to do and getting it done everytime you're on the ice.

Sven has never been able to do that consistently.

I doubt that any of the Flames are going to go out of their way to punish Sven, instead they need to have the mindset that he's just another victim.

If that's how Baertschi actually feels, then what's sad is that the lower number actually signified the team recognized him as a regular on the team. Only the call ups got the high numbers. If a number is enough to throw him off his game, then man that's some weak mental fortitude.

I do agree though that Burke's rule with low numbers is kind of silly. It's just a number. Let the players take whichever one they want, it shouldn't affect team performance. I know the reasoning by Burke is probably to symbolize everyone is on the same level, and no one is "above" the team with high numbers, but still think that reasoning is kind of dumb.
