If Monahan is in perfect health like he claims he is then why does he keep missing out on practices? An optional practice today and he isn't out there..which would be fine if he didn't sit out every other practice this week. He's right that he didnt have his best game but maybe it had something to do with being out of it and sitting for almost a week. Got to prepare himself, he is the C and relied on to carry the line.

The way it was explained is Monahan logged 20+ minutes down the stretch. He will log 20+ minutes every game moving forward. I think he probably has some bumps and bruises so some added rest probably is beneficial.

I am optimistic that he will be fine. His poor performance last night could be attributed to some playoff jitters. He did get better as the game wore on.

Canuck fans keep talking about the Sedins need to be played more. I think the Calgary top line is going to bounce back and if that happens we come home up 2-0

Great typo in NHL.com's latest on the Flames/Canucks series:

Quote:
Alexandre Burrows while posting the best possession statistics among forwards on either team; they were plus-11 and plus-13 in Shat Attempts (SAT), respectively.

How does such a big organization operate without editors?

None of the regulars practiced today. It would be strange if he did to me.

He's fine. Is someone circulating a clip of him being injured in the LA game or something?

I agree that if the top line gets back anywhere near the level they played in the final stretch including the LA game then we have a good chance to take it home with a big lead.

Canucks fans keep talking about the Sedins being the difference over the whole series when they figure it out but the Hudreaumon line was only starting to wake up at the tail end of game 1 and I dont think Van fans realize how dominant they can be in their own right. Both sides still have weapons that have yet to get on the board.

The pressure is squarely on Vancouver going into game two though. I know they have a good road record but that's your home ice gone out the window completely and you really dont want to rely on needing multiple wins in the other teams building..thats recipe for failure.

Should read shot attempts with shat results.

The Sedins were dangerous in the 1st, but even at that, the Flames did a good job of not really allowing much in the way of open, dangerous shots from in front. And many of the chances they did have were blocked by the D.

Honestly, we all watched the game. Is there anyone who would stand up and say they were 18-3 dominant?

They had some good territorial play. But anyone who thinks that the 18-3 is representative of how the game went, I just don't know what to say to them.

Just another example, IMO, of how the stats don't align with the game that we watched.

So happy Bieksa is actually going to play tomorrow night. His Corsi was 39% last night and Ferland was dusting him all night. I need more of that to fuel my soul.

I was somewhat dismayed, but not ultimately surprised, to see the HF Canucks board littered with people making their PG comments based on Corsi. It's a bizarre cognitive dissonance that says "lets look at unproven numbers to describe how we shouldn't have lost" rather than lets look at what the other guys did right, or what we did wrong, that led to us losing.

So much butt-hurt around "but but but....we SHOULDN'T have lost" and "we're the much better team". umm...no...you're not. You're a statistically similar team but on the downswing and old and we're on the upswing and deliciously young and full of energy. It's not that hard. In the immortal words of Mark Twain: "There are lies, damned lies, and statistics".

Just re watching some of the highlights, the Flames will definitely need to be more tighter defensively for Game 2... I felt Hiller made saves he normally wouldn't.

Yeah, I'd buy that. I felt it was luck, Canucks fumbling with the puck at crucial moments and Hiller that kept the puck out of our net, not our defense.

Is any of that extraordinary? No. The Canucks are a good team. They will have games where their best line (usually the Sedins) will dominate. They also had other good lines and players.

We also dominated at times. Overall the game was pretty even, and 1 goal is the smallest possible margin of victory.

really love the vibe in the city right now, and all the pressure is squarely on the canucks now. lose and we come home with a split, win and all is right in the world.
