@SUNGilbertson
Optional skate for #Flames today in Vancouver.
@Fan960Wills
10 skaters, including Giordano, 2 goaltenders (Ramo and Gillies) on the ice for optional #Flames practice at UBC.
@Fan960Wills
Bennett, Ferland, Granlund, Jooris, Potter and Schlemko are the only #Flames that played last night that are practicing today.

Spoke to someone yesterday who claimed to have a connection to the guy who did Giordano's surgery (so take this third hand info for what it's worth). He was unequivocal that there is no way Giordano will play until next year. Doesn't mean he can't skate and provide moral support, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Based on treliving's description of his biceps muscle being in his shoulder, I think we can conclude it wasn't a partial tear.
Never heard of anyone coming back from a full tendon tear like that in less than 3 months. Never heard of less than 4 but I guess maybe that's possible.
Source: I have no idea what i'm talking about.

This is what I posted in the positive playoffs thread last month, found a case study at least that it's possible he could come back this season without risking injury:

Well, according to this case report for a surgically repaird distal bicept tendon tear (Gio's injury) in a 38year old athletic male with weight training experience:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3537453/
Had full range of motion before 6th week after surgery, was in re-strengthening protocol by 8 weeks. Patient at 8 weeks had full function and no deficits on daily living. By week 10 was rehabbed.
Now Gio had surgery March 3rd. Hopefully if we hear positive progress by end of regular season, Gio could be having full range of motion by then. 8 weeks brings us to April 28th, which would be right at the end of the first round of playoffs. Last year, the second round started May 1st. If Giordano is at full function (not full strength yet), I bet we could see him start the second round.
Gio is a warrior, if his body recovers well and they have an aggressive rehabilitation regime (which you bet they probably do) we may not have seen the last of Giordano this season. Positive thoughts!

I have to go to Vancouver on Thursday for work.. Where's the best place to look for tickets, assuming game 5.

Unfortunately full ROM and initiation of resistance training are just the beginning of rehab for athletes. This case was published pretty early in patient's rehab, and ended at the point where he was able to function day to day. Functioning of ADLs basically means being self sufficient throughout a day. Gio doing things like wiping his own butt with his injured arm is great, but there's a ways to go until he's in professional athlete territory again. If playing in the NHL is traumatic enough to tear a healthy bicep tendon, you can bet it's traumatic enough to tear a repaired tendon.
Finally, with tendon repair, it's tough to assess if somebody is truly 'ahead of schedule'. The 'schedule' is based on the patient's pain, ROM, and activity tolerance. It is actually very loosely related to the tensile strength, which relies on the nature of tear, intraop findings, and natural healing process (doesn't actually find equilibrium for 18-24 months, although functional much sooner. Similar to bones, etc). And the tensile strength is really the main end point you're looking for in an athlete's return. There are only a few very poor ways to assess that, and returning to full resistance 'ahead of schedule' essentially means 'taking a larger risk', because assessing tensile strength is so poorly done. I highly doubt that he'll be taking slapshots for months, although I wish he played with the team tomorrow.

I think we all need to accept that Gio is done playing hockey this season. My only hope is that it's healed enough to lift the cup in June.

Good god that map is offensive.
This province is a predominantly Jets and Oilers province but there is a small Flames minority here (I being a part of) that could tell you right away that nobody, and I mean nobody, openly cheers for Vancouver. Why? Because we bullied them so hard after 2011 that they all retreated into the woodwork. I don't think anyone in their right mind can be proud of that franchise.
The only proud Canuck fans I see around here are the deutschebags that also claim to be lifelong fans of the Cavaliers and Seahawks. The ones I have encountered also seem to know more about European soccer than hockey.
Long story short, that map of Saskatchewan should be all grey and red, because a lot of people (read: Oiler fans) have joined forces with us. The rest are Jets fans.

So yup Gio would get his name on there.
