Seems as good a place as any.
I confess I was buying the pundits predicting us for near last place and I was writing off the season with the silver lining of getting another great pick.
So congrats to the players and all you die hard fans who never gave up this season - whatever happens now is gravy but they're in a really interesting place - and enjoyment for all in 2015.

At the beginning of the season when we were predicting where they would finish. I didn't think we were bottom five team because of some of the players we had. If we were going to make the playoffs it would mean that some of the younger players were the real deal. I guess mission almost accomplished.

It would be sweet to do a little 'Omage to 2004 if we made the playoffs.

New team altogether, but many similarities to that team in that we are underdogs and were then also.

Plus, there was some kinda magic surrounding that run. Edm in 06, Ottawa in 07, Canucks in '11 (LOL) none of those Canadian teams had that 'magic' that 04 Flames had.

I don't think anything will recreate that magic, but if any team can come close, it'll be this edition.

All of the players from 2004 are gone, but Conroy is the AGM and Gelinas is the Assistant Coach.

It's like Degrassi High where the students have now grown up and become the teachers in Degrassi The Next Generation

The flames have the benefit of being too young to know any better. GO FOR IT GUYS!

Losing gio is a major blow, but from everything I've seen this season, this is as much of a team as I've ever watched in Calgary. It's going to be thoroughly enjoyable to witness the remainder of this season, this group is incredible

I think the FLAMES player conditioning is the best in the league and that is why they will GET IN the PLAYOFFS and Old Dogs like the San Jose sharks won't.

I am also hoping the fatigue factor in going deep into the playoffs last year will hurt the Kings and they will run out of steam and not make it.

We need to win this game today in Ottawa. Go Flames Go!

Sean Monahan continues to develop at an incredibly rapid pace and appears to have taken his game to another level since Gio went out. With Russell, Wideman, Hudler leading the veteran charge and the young players following suit this team appears to be destined for spring hockey regardless of losing their best player.

Gio set the tone for the culture shift but the buy in from the whole group has been remarkable.

Man wouldn't it be nice to see Martin Gelinas Hoist the Cup with the Flames? Even as Assistant Coach, I feel he was cheated out of it in 2004.

I think he should put on equipment (skates at the very least) and skate around the dome hoisting the cup when we win it this year

Just want to put this journal article out there for a little Giordano optimism.... I know way, way ahead of myself but I was thinking far ahead for scenarios where Gio could still play this year, because it would really suck for him to be such a big part of this team and not get to help in the playoffs....

Well, according to this case report for a surgically repaird distal bicept tendon tear (Gio's injury) in a 38year old athletic male with weight training experience:

Had full range of motion before 6th week after surgery, was in re-strengthening protocol by 8 weeks. Patient at 8 weeks had full function and no deficits on daily living. By week 10 was rehabbed.

Now Gio had surgery March 3rd. Hopefully if we hear positive progress by end of regular season, Gio could be having full range of motion by then. 8 weeks brings us to April 28th, which would be right at the end of the first round of playoffs. Last year, the second round started May 1st. If Giordano is at full function (not full strength yet), I bet we could see him start the second round.

Gio is a warrior, if his body recovers well and they have an aggressive rehabilitation regime (which you bet they probably do) we may not have seen the last of Giordano this season. Positive thoughts!

I was thinking the same thing last night. If we go deep, I was hoping Gio could rejoin the team.

He is in incredible shape, so that couldn't hurt his rehabbing time table.

Was at the game last night, for a weeknight game on Wednesday no less. It was rocking, def could feel an energy the dome hasn't felt in quite some time.

Thanks for looking into this. I was thinking about the same thing, knowing how Bennett was able to get back up to speed at the very minimum possible term. Maybe Gio can fast track his recovery as well, even if he comes back on the third line, where he won't be overworked.

If we push through a series, I could see him finding a way back in May sometime, even if he's at 80%.
