This is key. Even if Calgary somehow wins both games against LA and Winnipeg, it might not matter if they can't take care of Arizona first. Both the Jets and Kings could still get 98 points while still losing to the Flames, but if we lose to the Coyotes our max is 97

80 games into the season and the Flames have 95 points. That's a 97.375 pace, which means the red snake is 1.341 points above the black snake. Since the 8 game losing streak, the Flames are on a 106 point pace in the 45 games. More impressively to me is they are on a 108 point pace in the 19 games since they lost Mark Giordano.

If Calgary wins tomorrow night at home against Los Angeles, they clinch a playoff berth, and it will ring true that nobody has missed the playoffs if they accumulate 96 points. With Boston and Ottawa both at 95 points, it looks like one of those teams will get at least 96 points and not make it in the east.

So you're saying we don't need Gio?

I wonder what kind of package we could get if we shopped Gio.

Can you draw teeth on the end of the red snake, it looks like it's opening it's mouth to eat the Black Snake and destroy it once and for all. Muahahah

I hope polak didn't spend too much time crafting his "I told you so" gif, now that the maximum number of points LA can get is 95.

Whoops.

Thinking about things this way helped keep me sane. I hate relying on other teams to lose - too stressful.

I love you red snake.

Or draw pee, like it's stopping and peeing on the blue snake right during the losing streak?

....do snakes pee?

One of my favourite exchanges from the season:

The west is just too competitive now, an 8 game losing streak will kill any chance a team might have at a playoff spot

They might not make it to the playoffs, and not many expected them to, but to say it is unrealistic they are out with 57% of the season remaining is the same attitude why the Oilers say they can't come back in any game when they are down by two goals. Yes they've lost 8 straight, but they are still right there even after losing those eight straight.

If the Flames can't make it in, how would Minnesota, Dallas and Colorado have any chance? The playoffs should just start in January and we don't need to waste anyone's time. Season's over folks? What if we win 3 of the next 4? Doesn't matter. You're three points back. What if we beat Winnipeg? Doesn't matter. You're out..

Calgary tanked just when the schedule became a little tougher, and it's not going to get any easier in the coming months, so going by their track record hoping for playoffs is a pipe dream

The red snake is back for the playoffs. The Flames need to average 1.143 points per game. After last night's win the red snake is 0.857 points above the black snake. Let's stay above it this time. For obvious reasons there are no green or blue snakes this season.

Maintaining the course. As long as Calgary doesn't lose two in a row this round, the Flames will be fine.
