The real questions is how long before Nonis becomes the GM in Calgary. (It's a 100% given that he'll be working for the Club. That's just how Burke operates.)

I'd guess dough boy will be hired as an assistant GM before September of this year and settles into the GM's chair by the beginning of the 2017-18 Flame season.
Why Shanny or Dubas? Neither have any of their fingerprints on the failures

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Think there will be more coming today from Toronto. Personnel and scouts, as well.

Mark Spector @SportsnetSpec
Leafs fire Director of Pro Scouting Steve Kasper as purge continues

I could see some of the scouts joining the Flames

How many were there under the reign of Burke?

To me, he's been a HUGE part of the problem in Toronto, who would want to give him a job right away again?

He Resigned
Phaneuf (awful awful deal)
Kessel (probably had to because of what they gave up for him)

Gave Clarkson his contract
Fired Carlyle while the team had a winning record, and the team really fell apart after that. Were there ay decent or positive things he did while in charge? It was Burke that brought in JVR, Kadri, Gardiner, Rielly and Bozak who I would think are the better pieces on the team.

In Vancouver, he brought in Luongo. Not that much of a great resume...

Leafs PR @LeafsPR
As part of an overhaul of its scouting staff, Leafs today relieved Dir. Pro Scouting Steve Kasper & Dir. Player Dev. Jim Hughes of duties.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Kasper and Hughes also cut loose by the Leafs. Western scout Rob Cowie also mowed down in the days swath of firings.

So are they just gonna pick random names out of a hat on draft day? Make picks based on their ISS rankings?

sounds like mostly the pro scouts have gotten fired (i.e. the ones they pay to watch and analyze NHL/AHL/ECHL players)

haven't heard anything about their amateur scouts yet (i.e. the ones who do the work for the draft). Although they might be thinking they will be let go after the draft.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Told Shanahan's message was direct with those fired one on one today. He acknowledged deep rooted problems and said he had to clean house.

....and that's mostly just Pro Scouts?

Holy crap they have a huge scouting dept.

Ridiculous.

You'd think with that many pro scouts they could have figured out Clarkson wasn't worth the contract they gave him.

That is major house cleaning.

Good on them. Hopefully Edmonton doesn't take note, because they are already busy golfing.

Mike Futa got a promotion in LA last year after several teams (incl. Calgary) courted him. Don't know how binding that new contract is, but as arguably the top GM candidate out there, and being from Toronto, that seems a logical fit.

I wonder if Babcock has any desire to add GM to his portfolio? The Leafs seem so desperate to bring him in that we could see the NHL's first coach/GM since Darryl.

Not sure if this is out there, but Director of Amateur Scouting Dave Morrison retains his role in Toronto.
