Exactly. I was one of those people following the backburner thread and salivating after every 2 or 3 point performance. To Sven's credit, it certainly looked like he was driving that Portland team.

Every time Baertschi opens his mouth about the trade I think less and less of him as a person. He doesn't come off as the smartest guy. No one was trying to make him into something he wasn't. As other posters before have stated, the Flames wanted him to add to his game, not change it. I don't think he understands what it takes to be successful in the NHL.

Get over yourself Sven, Hartley coaches for the team not the player, your a 13th overall pick in a draft that tapers off dramatically after the top 10 - grow up. I'm so glad the Flames coaching staff and management handled Sven the way they did and with how Sven has been acting before and now after the trade it just makes the additions and emergence of young players like Colborne, Granlund, Ferland, Jooris lead by Monahan and Gaudreau that much sweeter. Your not missed Sven, thanks for what will be a better player attitude wise in the future with that 2nd round pick

I laughed when I read how excited he said he was, if he got that kind of call-up here we would be hearing clouded comments from him about how he doesn't know what else he has to do to earn the spot that should be his.

What line was he on?
I honestly hope they put him in if we play against them. Kid plays so soft.

I've been mostly ambivalent about the whole thing but holy hell his quotes in that article are such loser talk.
To sum up, Flames were a bunch of grinding bullies with no skill, out to bully Sven into becoming Brendan Gallagher.

All this BS about him not getting a fair shake grinds my gears.
Did Jooris get a fair shake? He scratched and clawed his way into the minors, and then into the bigs.
No room for entitlement under Mr Bob Hartley, that is for sure. He has basically sat everyone this year except Hudler, Gio, Mony, Brodie and Russell.

With an attitude like that he wont last long in this league he just wants to play for a good team where other people do the work for him. Going to have to be willing to take a hit and win a board battle or two if he wants to last i dont see it happening.

I felt kinda sorry for him before that article. There are two sides to the story - Sven could've done better and we could've also, but this quote makes me kind of angry:
"I was just so excited. That’s what I wanted, to be in a place where they appreciate the way I play and help me out with whatever I need and don’t try to make me something I’m not."
Appreciate the way you play? What, it's that difficult to put some effort into defense and along the board? Help you out with whatever you need? Try to make you into something you're not? So you'd rather be an incomplete player than a complete player, then.
There used to be a little murkiness when it came to the entitlement issues. Now you just see it 100%. This kid's attitude is a joke and I'm glad we traded him away for what we could get. There's a certain way to respond to these types of interviews and saying stuff like this isn't ideal.
No need to passive-aggressively drag your former team through the dirt.

It's such an odd mentality.
To think that you need to be the player you were in junior because that's what got you drafted... therefore, you shouldn't change your game in the slightest.
I just don't get it.

Seriously, I'm glad he's gone.
No one was asking you to become Stephane Yelle, Sven, just backcheck. And since you're trying to promote yourself as such an offensive talent, where are the boatloads of goals to go along with it? Oh yeah, there aren't that many because you simply aren't as good as you think you are.
He'll be in europe in two years.

The funniest thing about this is it's basically an unintended shot across the bow of his new coach. "I play my game, that's why I'm here". Pretty sure the number of coaches who like to hear that is zero.

They tried to make you an NHL caliber hockey player Sven. And you are right, it is something you are not.
Those comments have to be pretty concerning even for the Canucks. Just a complete lack of understanding of the process behind making the NHL. Terrible comments.
There's probably not a Flames fan around that didn't want Sven to succeed and make an impact on the Flames. But the simple fact is that he hasn't progressed. He's been awful and not near a top prospect on the Flames for two even three years now. Ever since he sucked it up in the rookie tournament where he thought he didn't have to be there he's not been a good player. Something was wrong/missing at that point and it has never been fixed, doubt it ever does after reading that article.
