They could sign a free agent to play the rest of the regular season, but he wouldn't be eligible for the playoffs.
However, they can sign Gillies after Providence plays their last game and bring him in. He would be eligible for the playoffs. They play again on Thursday, and if they win that, again on Saturday, so he's not a realistic option until the playoffs.
