He had to be joking.

...Please be joking?

You could have it in the tutorial for what is incidental contact.

Burrows is moving in a straight line to the bench. He does not deviate.

Gaustad suddenly changed direction into Burrows. Burrows braces. Unfortunate, but not suspension worthy (or major worthy, but we killed it... so). CHL is correct, in that Bieksa's was far more deserving of supplemental discipline if there were to be any.

Go look at Bieksa's fight card. He regularly fights up in weight, not down.

He clearly sees Gaustad, who doesn't see him and is vulnerable, and pushes his shoulder forward to make contact with what looks to be the head. That's not incidental man. Are you implying that since Burrows is going "in a straight line" for a line change, he isn't responsible for not interfering with players who don't have the puck?

Dude, have you ever been anywhere within 100 feet of a hockey rink or goalie pads?

I would let Zedno Chara take a full lumberjack swing at a set of goal pads if I was wearing them, and the worst it would do is knock you off balance. He was clearly trying to knock the puck in the net, and Pavelec wouldn't have even felt a tap.

Basically you are saying it is OK to shoot a guy in the face with a .44 Magnum, for brushing into you in a stairwell. I like Byfuglien, but I hope he get at least 3 games for that. That was inches away from being one the most horrific thing we have ever witnessed in an NHL game.

That said, have to give the Canucks some credit. They are about to kill this off.

He is watching him the entire time and raises his shoulder...if that is incidental contact then I am the pope. I am sorry but he is a repeat offender, he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt.

watching the clip in the full context it has to be a joke. It was a shot attempt not a slash. He hit the puck and there was barely any follow through.

It has to be a joke.

About half and half over the last 4 or 5 seasons, actually. He did fight Brian Boyle (and they rated that he won), that would take balls lol.

No suspension for Burrows is what I'm reading:

No suspension for #canucks Alex Burrows. Can't say the same for #jets Dustin Byfuglien. No final decision yet. #tvasports
Surprising.

I want a response, and there are no half measures.
I doubt Byfuglien meant to almost break Miller's neck, but you don't get to respond only a little bit. You either do respond, or you don't.
That said, he has to be suspended - and if the Jets were my team I would be OK with both the reaction to the attack on my goaltender, and the suspension that went with the retaliation.
You want to respond do it with your fists like a man. Not your stick like a little b####. Are you one of those two hand slasher after being bumped in beer league?

It was brutal. Yes, I'm sure Byfuglien was caught up in the heat of the moment and intensity within the game, but this was completely unwarranted retaliation and is beyond ANY excuse.
Not saying it was warranted nor suspension worthy. Clearly it is. Just saying when you see the slash as Byfuglien did, an attack on his goaltender, you either respond to the slash or you don't. I want my team to respond. Teams like the Oilers don't. The problem with responding is that it doesn't always turn out well, like this didn't....but I'm OK with it when it doesn't, within reason.

No. You either respond or you don't.
Either can go terribly wrong (like Bertuzzi response with fists did).
Just saying I prefer my team to respond, fully understanding that something as bad as this is a possible outcome.

Except, to the letter of the law on interference he needs to make a move to interfere with the player. Burrows just goes in one lane towards the bench, not on course to collide with Gaustad.

Burrows sees him, and sees him change course. Gaustad changes course and doesn't see Burrows. Burrows had a chance to brace, Gaustad did not. It's unfortunate incidental contact.

Considering Moore didn't really want to do that, Bertuzzi took it as an invite to do do it from behind.
