My predictions
highwood votes pc in one of the largest margins of victory next election imo.

i think WR takes both FT Mac seats, the Slave Lake riding (good candidate who lost by 900 votes last time) , St Paul, and Westlock. Probably hold a seat or two down south.

libs will get laurie blakeman. That is it

ndp gets the 4 seats in edm they have, plus edm goldbar, maybe 2 to 3 more in edm (i think protest vote in edm all goes ndp as long as Notley doesnt blow the debate). NDP also take 1 in Ldthbridge

pcs get the other 75 seats.

i feel for the poor ridings who end up with a muzzled backbench pc MLA. Good luck watching your interests traded away by cabinet members.

Brian Jean sounds like a true leader and I'm glad he's the new WR leader.

Maybe she can cross back to the Wild Rose. You know, just to complete the stupidity. Oh, and HAHA.

I see it differenly and am kind of sad Smith lost. I love that she made life utterly miserable for Stelmach and especially Redford. They sucked so much. Prentice might be the right guy and she knows it. And I think her own party was starting to suck as well...the caucus mini coup on gay straight alliances was not something she was willing to tolerate. So it may have been an honest move rather than a power grab. But of course it looks bad and I'm not even slightly surprised she lost.

The interesting thing to me in all of this is that while the voters were done with Smith and chastised her for being a traitor and all that, they're about to do the exact same thing in a lot of cases. Its not like they are staying true to the Wildrose because they're going to vote PC. So while Smith lost in Highwood, is there any doubt that Fischer will win?

Its interesting to me that voters will be angry that these guys crossed the floor, but in the voting booth its not like they're all staying with the Wildrose, or voting anybody by PC themselves.

What the hell is that even supposed to mean, Slava? You are basically arguing that every voter should be locked into one party for life, no matter the situation. Even you have to realize just how absurd that is.

No what I'm saying is that if you take Highwood for example, the voters there who chastised her for crossing the floor to the PCs and arguably didn't like that move are likely voting for the PCs next time (in a matter of weeks). Its interesting to me so see that dichotomy. Basically Danielle was a turncoat and that's terrible because we elected her and she was against the PCs and everything they stood for....but I'm going to vote for them anyway.

Sure, but the Wildrose then may not be the Wildrose now, and the Redford Tories may not be the Prentice Tories, etc. Such ridings may benefit from voter apathy, given a Wildrose voter may not switch to Liberal even if they don't want to vote PC, etc.

You're basically just falling into your usual "lets argue absolutes to trash Wildrose and/or people I don't like" shtick again.

I doubt the people who voted WR last election are going to vote for the PCs this time around, except for a small percentage.

I think it would go something like the following for previous WR voters:

50% will still vote WR
40% will not vote at all
10% will vote for PC.

All traitors eventually feel the burn of the noose around their neck.

So long Smith, you won't be missed.

I'm really not just trashing the Wildrose here. It's just interesting to see people who want to see Smith feel the wrath of voters, and in the coming weeks make the exact move she just did. You can dress it up however you want, be it the parties are so different now or whatever. The fact remains that people who voted for Smith as a Wildrose MLA and we're upset that she crossed the floor are going to vote PC. It's not about trashing anyone, I just find that interesting. Really the Wildrose themselves ought to be interested because if people were upset with Prentice say December 1, policy wise nothing has changed, and they should be all over those voters.

It could be. My original line of thought was that there were very few actual differences between the PCs and Wildrose to begin with though, so that makes switching as the winds change much easier to rationalize for voters. It's not like a switch from the NDP to the Wildrose where there are core differences that would be hard to overcome.

I doubt WR supporters will be falling over themselves to vote PC, not sure where you are getting that from other than complete speculation. If anything this next election may set a low point for voter turnout, we go 40% in 2008, maybe we can hit the 30's this time.

So in the Chestermere riding, the PCs disqualified Jamie Lall last night from being a candidate, even though he ran for the PCs in 2012. Thus acclaiming Bruce McAllister.

Simply unreal to see this kind of thing happen. They'll do it for McAllister but not for Smith.... hahaaha.

No. At the end of the day we saw her true colors.

Prentice reeled her in and then tossed her out like a cheap hooker.

Glad Redford and Smith are gone. Let's let the adults run things.
