There was that 8 game losing streak as well, which does in most teams IMO. Oilers suffer long losing streak and collapse. Leafs - same.

I thought you couldn't sign a player if he was still in school? Even if its exams wouldn't the have to wait to sign him?

Signing only effects NCAA eligibility to play sports. Since his hockey season is done and he's skipping his senior year he can sign.

That is false. The only thing signing a player to a pro contract does is make him ineligible for NCAA athletic scholarships and to play in NCAA games.
It does not mean you get kicked out of school. College players are free to sign whenever they want with the understanding they can't play in any NCAA games and lose their scholarship when they do.

The Corsi/Fenwick battle will be interesting because the Flames seem to play a style that breaks outside the conventional wisdom of how to win hockey games. Yielding the perimeter and racking up blocked shots is certainly giving up possession, but time will tell if its calculated and a new way to win, or if it's playing with fire (100 game sample) and heading to disaster.
I'm starting to think the Flames don't fit well in the advanced stats categories because of this, and they'll end up doing a version of it again next season.
Biggest fear for me isn't the style of play, but the gumption it takes to keep doing it. If they lose that effort it won't work.
I'm guessing it's a great way to stop gap a team until your young talent takes over.
|
They seem to use shot blocks to gain possession too. Defence (Russell) blocks the shot, and the high forwards seem to gain possession and it's an even man or odd man rush, and most of the scoring for the Flames outside of the PP do seem to come off the rush don't they?

Forgive me if this has been asked before. But if there were to be injuries down the road in the season would he be applicable to be called up to Calgary?

No. He does not have a valid NHL contract for the 2014/2015 season.

Right, I've not forgotten that, I assure you! I guess I was more thinking along the lines of catastrophic injuries or huge regression in our key players.

That's very unlikely. Don't even think he is with the team yet. Needs time to learn the system etc.

per Huska, Morrison is expected to join the team today and they will work to get him in the "line up in the next little while." Huska wants Morrison to do a few practices and get up to speed and then should be a regularly in the line up.

As mentioned in the Adirondack Thread earlier today: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...137870&page=44
Morrison joined the team and was a participant in the optional skate they held this morning. It was his first skate with the team. I believe all the other college ATO/PTO signed kids were skating as well with a few of the Addy regulars.

Morrison gets his first pro assist in his first pro game in his first PP shift.
Assisted on a Hanowski PP goal
