People still think Mike freakin' Milbury is worth listening to. Damien Cox still has a job. There are a lot of morons who make money talking about hockey without really having much of a clue.

edit - and as others have mentioned, the mentorship of Jagr on the young players could be a huge boost as well.
I wouldn't call not acquiring Jagr "giving up" And him being on your team for 20-30 games wont result in much mentorship.

Panthers are an underdog and would be a good story I get it, still bad hockey trade if you ask me, if they go on some miracle run I will come back and eat crow

Healy is a tool though and I have no problem with Willie defending his team...sometimes its not what Glen says but how he says it.

Early in the season when asked for his opinion on the Jets/Flames game

"battle of two non-playoff teams" what a d-bag

There's been other veteran contributions that have helped the Panthers, but nobody means more to this team than Mitchell.
With all due respect to Mitchell, the Panthers turnaround starts and ends behind the bench. They simply wouldn't be where they are without Gerard Gallant.

I dunno, Mitchell already won me over back when he made fun of former teammate Kesler for his repetitive diving in the playoffs.

Nice to see Big Willie standing tall in such a hard situation.

No one likes him, but that is the "entertainment" being served to us. Which makes it almost more infuriating.

Ah I see. So in Rogers opinion it would be boring without Healy. Funny thing is that I either leave the room or turn the channel when Healy is on the air so Rogers assumes that viewers are entertained by him even if many would rather not listen to him. I would expect nothing less from the Rogers brain trust to actually believe that making their viewers tune out is better than them staying tuned in and possibly being bored because in their opinion the rest of the assembled talent isn't worth listening to on their own without the side show clown.

Reasons Healy has a job.
1. He can string a sentence together (unlike some former players)
2. Opinionated and willing to take the other side. Sometimes hosts are asked to create controversy. Take opposite sides to create debate. He doesn't mind being the bad guy. In a way it's almost like pro wrestling.
3. Union contacts. From what I recall he's a pretty well connected guy.

I don't like him either, but it's clear why they keep him around.

I watched about 6 hours of deadline coverage yesterday. I thought sports net had the vastly superior coverage, but every time Healy was on I switched to TSN. Eventually I would switch back, but if Rogers clued in and dumped Healy, I never would have switched in the first place. I probably watched 2 hours of TSN simply because of Healy. I doubt Sportsnet's advertisers would be happy about that.

Good, Healy drives me nuts.

Considering how much I liked him as a player (pops is an Isles fan), it's a testament to his awfulness how much I dislike him as a media personality.

I started to like Mitchell after then Flames coach Mike Keenan called him out for using a long stick and he came out in warm up with this. Cracked me up.

Haha I totally forgot about that.

I love when players display their sense of humour.

Who are the players worth following on twitter?
Strombo seems like comedy gold.
Anyone else?

It's the Kanye West factor. Only thing that makes sense.

I love seeing him get put in his place.
Lol the Kanye West factor? Ye is still around because he is a genius musician fyi. Healey on the other hand is a complete hack, who regularly throws players or entire teams under the bus for no reason. Remember back when Iginla was on the Pens? He blamed everything on Jarome during that playoff run. Really sad.
