Yeah, definitely unlikely... but we could always pull a Wideman or Bouwmeester and acquire his rights to then sign him before UFA. Just some interesting food for thought.

#Blackhawks have upped ante in trade targets. Looking at players on level of Jeff Skinner and Mike Cammalleri. That type of player

How would they squeeze them in next year with the cap not increasing and Kane and Toews raises kicking in.
Would mean salary is moving the other direction IMO

They would just offload that player in the offseason.

Have to keep in mind how quickly all this cap space will disappear. Gio deserves and will get $7 million+ per year in his next contract. Gaudreau and Monohan will likely get identical long term contracts that could be in the $5 million per year range if they keep progressing like they have. Russell will be due for a raise to $4 million per year. Similar contract for backlund too. Then there's colborne and bouma. What if the flames want to extend hudler? That's another $5 million per year. Not even to mention Bennett or any other rookies that become consistent core players to the team in the next 3 years.
Taking on phaneuf or kessel's contract would become a huge anchor on this team. Not now or even next season... But probably in the 2016-2017 season and even more in the years to follow... The years when this team will be ready to compete in the playoffs.

Ramo or Hiller for Smith+?
I prefer to keep Ramo but I don't believe they'll give him another contract if Hiller is still here and Ortio likely to be up with Calgary next season. Allows them to get an asset for Ramo. If they trade Hiller, re-up Ramo. Flames decide to run with either as their #1 and Smith as the backup. Coyotes get a goalie to give them time for their goalie prospects to develop. The "+" would have to be pretty good, IMO, to make it worth it to Calgary.
Maybe add a little on either side if a bigger deal is in the works.
Offload Smith in the future via either trade or buyout.

Insider Trading:
http://www.tsn.ca/video/insider-trad...ng-up-1.217147
really high return for Jagr. return was affected by the Winnik trade
Tallon has been after Jagr for a long time.
Panthers will trade Fleischmann and the deal will be like Fleischmann + Bergenheim for Jagr
Blackhawks are the team that most wants to make a deal right now.
one of half dozen teams that are interested in Vermette
no doubt in McKenzie's mind that Bowman will use Kane LTIR to get some UFAs
Vermette, Glencross, and Atkinson are primary targets
Capitals would like to add a top 6
believe Cole's skating will fit in, Glencross and Lupul on radar
no guarantee that Lupul, Bozak and Phaneuf get traded before deadline but generating tons of interest
Boston has been trying to get a winger for more than a month
Cole, Atkinson, Glencross, Stewart

Why not add in Bennett, and the 1st from 2016 as well.

For the record I'd be happy if the Flames never traded their 1st round pick ever again!

Same, until we're a top 5 team in the NHL and could use that pick to trade for a legitimate shot at a Stanley Cup. Then I'm all for trading it!
We're not at the point though. I'd lose it if we traded any of our first round picks in the next 3 years at least.

Look at it this way, the 1st would be more than likely a mid 1st, Sven was a higher pick than that and still has not made it so no guarantee's there with either one. A 2nd is a huge crapshoot. Klimchuk is not a bad player but he still looks to me like a tweener 2nd/3rd liner who might have injury issues and Eng is a 6th D man at best. In return you get a guaranteed young stud D man. Ya, where do we sign?

Petry? He's a 2nd pairing guy for sure. Remember this is a guy who made Smid look like a 2nd pairing guy.
What he's not is a 1st pairing guy, and worse I think he's been on the line with Schultz who is nothing short of brutal.
You will see Petry pull a Dubnyk once he's traded and put on an actuak second line. I wouldn't mind being the team that does it to them, though he's about 4 years too old to gamble a first on.

Yes he is. Would that get it done? No, because as soon as you say Oliver, Maloney hangs up the phone.
