I hate Edmonton as much as the next guy, but you're kidding yourself if you think the mall isn't awesome, particularly in the cold climate we live in. I always make it up there for a weekend every winter and have a blast. Not saying this applies to you, but anybody I've ever known in real life that doesn't like WEM is a lame, no-fun kinda guy.
It just sucks it's in Edmonton. Calgary has no indoor equivalent. Our pools are a giant joke compared to what the mullets get. And Calaway Park is super fun, but it's only open six months a year. COP rules and the mountains are great, obviously, but not that fun during a -30 cold snap.

I don't mind West Edmonton Mall but I'm glad Calgary doesn't have it. It created a massive black hole for shopping and entertainment in Edmonton anywhere besides the mall. It's nice to visit every couple of years for a day or two but after that, meh.
It was amazing as a kid growing up in Fort McMurray though, truly. Always a fun time. And I wish Calgary had a big water park, something big something modern.

Yeah, I could definitely do without the shopping, but given the fact we're a winter climate, I'm surprised it wouldn't be profitable for someone to open a waterpark/amusement park/something to do indoors that's super fun. Personally, I think bowling is pathetically boring, but that's one of the only indoor active(ish) things to do with a family aside from swimming at our crappy pools.

We do deserve a new water park/ amusement park in the Calgary area. With the future development in the Springbank area (some sort of big outlet mall) I wonder if Calaway Park can cash in on that by upgrading their facilities. I would be okay with an outdoor water park but obviously indoor would provide full year enjoyment.

Was that your first time in the West Ed mall? Because it gets pretty damn boring after the second or third time.
I've been going to Edmonton several times a year for 20 years and I don't even get slightly excited going anywhere near the mall. The most I will do is go to Imax and the maybe the pet store to play with the ferrets.
I like to not deal with a couple thousand people and screaming children for 5 hours

It's probably my 30th time there. I go at least annually. Always pick a super cold lame weekend to go and I guarantee I have more fun at the beach and in the amusement park than anybody I left behind in Calgary. Honestly, tell me what there is to do in Calgary (indoors) that is more fun than the roller coaster or some of those crazy waterslides and I'll stay here. I hate the drive to Edmonton so I'm really looking forward to your suggestions on equivalent activities in Calgary.

I didn't realize we were strictly talking about water slides and roller coasters. I'm not into that sort of thing but I agree theirs no equivalent. As for everything else, you can do 98% of it in Calgary, and thats where it gets boring.

Hmm, thought I heard that the outlet mall idea in Springbank died.
As for WEM, last time I went there I did the "$100 Hamburger Run" with a buddy and had some spaghetti for lunch, he bought some pants (no he didn't fly up pants-less) and then we flew back home to YYC (R.I.P. YXD). That was around 2000.
