Considering our history of playing better with more injuries/call ups on the roster, this could be a good thing. Team was playing very well when Ferland was last in the lineup.
Beyond excited for the Poirier debut. Been waiting some time for that! I still remember the goals he scored in the 2013 camp exhibitions. Looked like a stud then.

Doesn't happen because the trade would ultimately make the team weaker overall after giving up five 1sts, Bennett, Monahan and Giordano or whatever stupid amount it would require. The acquisition cost for certain players makes them essentially untouchable, at least for a time, was my point.

This is why in the off-season I said I would eat my pubes if Gio is traded. The deal still stands...

And Hanowski because of trade value?

I doubt Hanowski and Ramage will get qualified. They are career AHLers at best IMO.

As it is, one of these guys won't be here longer than 2-3 games, as Stajan likely won't be gone long. And to get them both in, that means Jooris sits. Jooris' status with the team has grown uncertain in recent days.

Not exactly sure what you're arguing here.
In all likelihood, Ferland is only up for a few days and doesn't see any action.
However, with respect to my point, I don't think that matters. Getting called up is huge for these guys. Even if you don't get in a game, it says the team notices you and thinks highly of you. It could definitely give him a boost (which was my point).

Stajan might be gone longer than usual just because of the extended road trip making it easier to keep the kids there and not fly him out.
But the kids get NHL pay, NHL practices, NHL perks. It's going to help them.

I wouldn't be so sure. Who knows what kind of bold moves MacTavish has in mind for the waiver wire?
I would never expose Turner Elson to that.

I agree with those who say that Ferland's call up is about motivating him.
Hartley likes the kid a lot, went out of his way to find him a mentor (Odjick). Hartley is probably wondering why Ferland's play hasn't been up to par and wants to bring him in and talk to him and remind him of his potential.
That's the thing with Ferland, commitment was the big issue with him. He's got all the tools to be a top 6 power forward but he needs to want it. By all accounts, he re-dedicated himself after his disasterous season from a few years ago, and its possible the concussion put him back into that poor state of mind (all speculation).
Hopefully, Hartley can get him going again, cause he is a really important piece for this team moving forward.

Guy who thought Poirier should have been a 3rd round pick in 2013;
Corey Pronman @coreypronman
Poirier-CGY callup well deserved. He's looked excellent this season.

I would say it isn't just Hartley, but the entire org that loves Ferland and what he could bring to the team over the years.
There is absolutely no question that this team needs to get bigger and tougher to play against. The 'goons' are slowly being pushed out of this league, and being replaced by guys who can play. Toughness is not being pushed out. Having someone of Ferland's level of toughness combined with his skill is something that is extremely difficult to find. Will he ever become an NHL regular who can pot in 20+ goals a season? Maybe, maybe not. I seriously doubt this organization is going to give up on this kid without being absolutely sure he isn't an NHL player.
I wouldn't say Ferland is 'untouchable', but he I figure he is definitely a guy in the organization that the Flames would not include in any trade as a sweetener of any sort.

Not that I disagree about their likelihood of becoming NHL'ers, but I'd be very surprised if they weren't both qualified. We won't be in a crunch for contract spots next season and they have both been decent if unspectacular in the AHL. Typically there has to be a regression or serious attitude/off-ice issues for a team to not qualify guys, just because....well, you never know.
