Flames will have to add. End of discussion.

Anyone followed Connolly much recently? Obviously real high draft position but hasn't shown a ton since as far as I know. Could be worth the gamble if the scouts do their homework.

It's been done.
Forsberg for Erat is just one example. Terrible trade but proves it happens.

Yeah, if you're a top team you don't mind doing that. Conolly is 14th in points on the Lightning and 10th in goals. He's a spare part on the bottom lines. Don't know if he's ever going to live up to that 6th overall billing.
He's an interesting pick up but I wouldn't be that excited about it.

Despite his troubles scoring at the NHL level Tampa could certainly get more for a 22 year old Connolly than a 31 year old UFA Glencross.
Anyone who thinks otherwise must be sniffing sticky products.

I'll bet you a $100.00 (donated to CP) that this trade doesn't go down without an add by Calgary

I think you are missing the point, which wasn't about if your prediction was probably right or not.

I would easily give up Sven for a rental if the Flames were in the Lightning's position.
Their young core has pretty much opened a window for them to be cup contenders. The right rental could push them over the hump and get a Stanley Cup.
That being said it has to be the right rental and the Glencross that is showing up to Flames games recently doesn't appear to be that guy. The Glencross from 3 years ago definitely could be.

A UFA Glencross still has more value than Erat with a year left IMO.
Point was more that GM's get desperate around this time of year. Not Glencross/Erat comparison.

Bickel comes to mind he has size and a fairly big ticket $4M for 2 more years after this. He is about as good as Glencross these days and if the Falmes take the deal and the Hawks kick in a 2nd that would be great.
Sharp is another option who is less likely but if the Flames add a prospect maybe something can be worked out. I am likely out to lunch here but Sharp+Runblad for Glencross, Sven, Diaz
Glencross for Oduya also could work out
|
I don't follow Chicago much, but based on reputation, I would love to add Bickel as a cap dump and get some size in the lineup.

Yeah. I would love to see us make a deal with Montreal involving Eller and Glencross+. Something like Glencross + Diaz for Eller. Montreal gets a much needed defenceman who has spent time with montreal in the past, a potential "top 6" forward who can play gritty playoff hockey, and we get a young former 1st round pick who hasnt recorded a point in 15+ games. Would only like to see something like this happen if and only if, we fall out of the playoff hunt. Cause we are looking for a D man, as we are in the playoff picture as of right now.

Glencross for Oduya is very plausible and would make sense.

Thats a terrible idea, we have Monahan/Backlund/Stajan/Granlund at C, Eller is 25 years old and not a prospect, and carries a $2.5M ticket.

Stajan is piping hot garbage ive said it all year and will continue to, how is this guy still in the league? When we are contenders he will not be part of the plans. Granlund could potentially be converted to wing.

3/4ths of your argument actually backfired. 25 years old is the perfect age, considering how weve done this year and potentially fastforwarded the rebuild a year or so. He isnt a prospect, he is a nhl proven talent, pre apex. Check. 2.5 M is peanuts, hell, stajan is getting paid morw.
