The term brutal comes to mind.

If its true he wants to stay close to home, Winnipeg would be a good spot for him. That they aren't a shoe in for the playoffs or a leading cup favorite would be the negatives.
Flames defensive depth could be better. Much better.

Was wondering if an acquiring team could get permission to negotiate a new contract with a player before the trade is consumated. Could raise the return price significantly if a eam could agree to an extension.

Pretty sure the Jets are not on his list

I wouldn't want any of them either.
Honestly, even if Winnipeg were on his list of teams he'd allow a trade for, I don't see a fit. As far as I can tell Winnipeg has two classes of asset... guys that I wouldn't want and guys that they wouldn't want to give.

Draft pick?
I sure hope Glencross would accept a trade to Winnipeg. The Flames may be reluctant to trade him here even if he is ok with a trade to the Jets, as we are in a battle for the Wild Card positions right now.

There is absolutely no chance Glencross accepts a deal to Winnipeg.
If he is leaving Calgary at this deadline, he wants to go to a contender, not another bubble team.

How high?
But, yes the current playoff positions complicate things. I'd much rather ship him east or barring that to a team that's already significantly higher then the Flames in the standings. And again that would only be in play if the Jets were on his list.
All things being equal kind of thing... the Jet's offer would have to be meaningfully higher then most other offers to get the yes.
Really Anaheim makes the most sense. They have a clear need, aren't a bubble team in the west, is very likely on his list.

What is the deal with Glencross and Anaheim? Is there some kind of connection there or is it just they are only truly west (by location) team that is guaranteed a playoff spot at this point (LA/SJ/Van could all miss).

I don’t know if Curtis Glencross makes sense for the Hawks at this point, over, or at the cost of upgrading the defense, but the Calgary Flames have been scouting Rockford quite a lot lately. This past weekend Calgary dispatched two different members of hockey ops, including their assistant GM to the IceHogs-Oklahoma City game. OKC is Edmonton’s AHL affiliate this year. Anything’s possible, but Calgary dealing for Oilers’ prospects at this point doesn’t make much sense. Glencross is unhappy in Calgary and his contract is up in June, so he’s likely to get moved at the deadline in spite of Calgary’s position as a Wild Card hopeful. Sportsnet’s Roger Millions and Elliotte Friedman reported today that Glencross has drawn interest from “up to 15 teams” but his list of teams he would accept a trade to at this point is fewer, between 5 and 7, according to Friedman. Those 15 suspected teams figure to be all playoff current playoff teams, and perhaps one or two on the borderline, because the cost of acquiring Glencross will come at the expense of a higher round draft pick, and perhaps also a prospect. And with his contract up in June, it’s a price a team with an uncertain playoff-standing is unlikely to pay. So, if that 15 team speculation is correct, it would figure that the Hawks are in that group as a team that’s at least kicking the tires at this point. However, I think the price for Glencross at this point in time (and maybe moreso now that this is out there) is too rich for the Hawks’ blood

edit: should be noted Adirondack does play OKC today and tomorrow

^ would likely have to wait until closer to the deadline as the Hawks are right at the cap, but the Flames could eat half the Cap and help the Hawks.
Other option is Versteeg coming to Calgary with a prospect/pick. or Versteeg being sent out in an alternate deal .
I agree with Jiri... Johns or Pokka please.

It actually would be an interesting twist if he ended up with a new contract extension out of this somehow.

That and their LW depth consists of Patrick Maroon, Andrew Cogliano and an injured Matt Beleskey. Glencross would get significant ice-time down the stretch there... AKA the opportunity to boost his stock prior to free agency.

Their GM has a man crush on GlenX. Publicly praising him at least once.
Last year he held back on acquiring Cammi, and another hired gun might have helped them get further ion the playoffs.
Ducks are in win now mode. They are as likely as anyone to have a long run, with talent that could make GlenX look good headed into a contract year.
Anaheim is Anaheim, who would not want to live there even temp.
All of these facts combined = hope they will give all their prospectz and pickz. LOL

It would be but it would be a disaster. You just can't keep a guy like that in your room when he's gone into poutface mode. Doesn't send a good message to the team.

He was part of their organization before and first tasted the NHL there, so maybe he just has a positive vibe about the organization and city.

Well, Glencross did start his career in Anaheim. Didn't last long, but maybe he likes that organization for actually giving him the opportunity.

I hope the Flames rip the band aid off fast like Jets did. This is a bad distraction.
