I would classify putting up three assists against Boston, and being +2, as stepping up his game. Even at the end of OT he wasn't going to let time expire but saw the opportunity for one last rush - leadership!

I think he is still playing pretty well, but has been covering for Brodie as of late.
Not sure what is going on with Brodie (notwithstanding the bank shot gwg last night), but he has been making some uncharacteristically poor decisions.

Letang would have more points than Gio if he was not injured. Gio should be the front runner for all around stats. Weber has great numbers too.

I love Gio but I think the league rights a wrong they've made with multiple snubbings of Webber and he finally gets it this year

I think he's still the front runner but he's slowed down quite a bit since that dominating stretch of November-December. But that could just be the rest of the team stepping up around him as well so he doesn't have to be Iginla out there.

But, I'm talking about the last 1.5 months, not just last game. It took more than a one game sample size to make my claim.

The knock on Weber was always the fact that he was on a bad team. Can't say that anymore. I wouldn't even be mad if Giordano lost it to Weber, he needs to win it at least once in his career.

Nashville wasn't expected to finish in the bottom 3 and compete for McDavid/Eichel, Calgary was and the fact that Calgary is where they are is in large part due to the leadership through out the Flames which starts with the captain. I think if we battle out a placement in our division than Gio wins the award hands down.

While I tend to agree, so does Gio

Shea Weber IMO. Gio nominated.

This might be one of the most stacked years ever for the Norris. Giordano, Weber (and his partner Roman Josi deserves some love too), Shattenkirk, Burns, Letang, Big Buff, Subban...just a loaded year for this award. I do think it's Weber's to lose but it's a very crowded race right now.

I think Nashville was thought to be pretty bad, though. Not that this should be the reason for Weber to win it, but he is having a great year, on a great team and he has never won it before. My guess would be Weber over Gio and [insert eastern D here; Letang?]

Back in December, Gio was out in front for the Norris, unfortunately I think they've caught him. I'm not sure right now i'd be giving it to him.

Gio is ahead of Weber for assists (36 to 27), points (47 to 40), blocked shots (121 to 116) and takeaways (30 to 14). Has taken less PIM too (37 to 47).
Weber is ahead in +/- (19 to 15) goals (13 to 11) and giveaways (41 to 49). The only category he is clearly ahead is hits (114 to 57).
Not sure why Weber would be a favorite based on the numbers. If Weber were to win simply to "right a past wrong" or because he "hasn't won it before" it only serves to cheapen the award imo.

Unfortunately you dont win the Norris, or many awards by having the best numbers, unless they so far beyond the guy in second place
In race where its close between Gio and Weber for example... Weber has "paid his dues" so to speak by being nomitaed as well as being in the conversation for several years. I just dont see any situation where if its close they give it to Gio
Hopefully I am wrong

I think that "should Gio win the Norris" and "will Gio win the Norris" are 2 cometely different questions that likely do not have the same answer. Especially to east coast writers/voters in Carolina, Tampa and NY that hardly see him a handful of times each season. My guess is that he finishes top 3 but does not take home the award.

So how much do advanced stats start to play in this argument? Do people start to look at those?

Duncan Keith won last year, so clearly they don't matter at all.

If Flames make playoffs, Gio wins Norris.
