I think he knows that, and it was a joke.

A 3 point game last night puts Giordano at 47 points and gives him a 3 point lead on the next closest defensemen (Burns and Letang at 44). Weber will likely get some strong consideration with 40 points, +19 and Nashville being the top team in the league. Is it safe to say Gio is the favorite with 25 games to go?
Other names that will be in the mix are Karlsson, Subban, Letang and Burns.

I think Giordano has to step up his game right now, to be honest. He isn't having the same kind of impact on the team he did from October to December. He's still excellent, but something is different right now.
I'd like to believe he's got the best chance of winning it, but Weber is giving him a serious run for his money.

Nope. I would still consider him a dark horse because he's not a big name and Eastern media barely know who he is.

Gio is a likely nominee. But the Norris is a reputation award, and Weber has never won. He likely has the inside track, and if he's within 10 points of the d-men scoring lead and Nashville finishes near the top of the standings, it will be his to lose.

Gio probably should win, but he won't. I also think Weber is the front runner.

Weber will win it. He's been a nominee multiple times and his team is near the top. Gio will get a nomination, but unless he put sup 70+ points, this year is finally Weber's. And he deserves it.

Yeah, pretty much. With the Norris you have to establish yourself the previous season or two before winning it.

Outside of Subban and Karlsson, it typically is more from long term view. It's Weber's to lose IMO

I think we have to play well on the eastern road trip to give the media a chance to see what we have been seeing since the middle of last season.

Do you really think that is the case EE?
I might have agreed with you last year when he was tracking with similair numbers till he got injuired, but I would hope that after his All Star appearance that his name would be out there.
Edit: you might be correct EE, it looks like the last true western team player to win was Rob Blake in 97 for LA.

You would have to think if this team ends up in the playoffs then it would definitely help his chances. Even the media from Montreal wouldn't have an excuse to leave him off the ballot this time.

Yes. The answer is Yes. It has to be 'Yes.'
Did you see that game last night? Gio was immense!
And I hate the 'he has to get the most points' garbage surrounding the Norris. For once I just hope they pick the best defenceman and right now the only guy who can hold a candle to Gio is Weber, and quite frankly, he probably should have won it once or twice already.

Not that it means much:
“@NHLnumbers: According to our poll, 36% of people believe Mark Giordano is the frontrunner for the Norris Trophy, 28% voted Weber, 12% voted Subban #NHL”

If the season ended today, I have to think Gio wins the award. The Flames were expected by most to be bottom 3 in the league and have surprised everyone by being in a playoff spot. They don't have a top 10 goalie or a top 20 forward in the lineup. Gio has basically thrown this team on his back and gets it done at both ends of the ice.
